Ladies and gentlemen, if you form a band, and get to a certain point, please formulate a contract to ensure a venue will pay you, and are able to provide what your band needs to perform.
It only takes getting burnt by an unprofessional venue and an unprofessional promoter once, then you start making demands you should have been making a while ago.

Just this weekend, actually.
It was a whole cavalcade of unprofessionalism to the highest degree on the venue owner's part. He was a coked up asshole.
So now, because of them, we require a 25% deposit to even play, when we used to not require that.
If you ever thought Van Halen's brown M&M's thing was strange, you now know why it's in their contract, to ensure the venue owner's or promoters actually read the contract. Because if they overlook that, how do you know they didn't overlook other important things?
That, by the way, was David Lee Roth's suggestion. We now have a similar clause in our contract, for similar reasons.
