IPhone App Game Data

If you play a game for a bit that saves data rather than just high scores on your iPhone e.g Final Fantasy, but then need to recover space so delete the game from your phone but keep the game on iTunes, does it keep the save data when you return it to your phone or do you have to restart.

Sorry if this is worded weirdly but I did it in a bit of a rush.
