Happy 25th Anniversary, Plus My Dream Goal About Zelda

Happy 25th anniversary to The Legend of Zelda.

Since playing Ocarina of Time I became interested in Zelda... though I wouldn't buy another, both out of limited money and time at that moment, until Twilight Princess for the Gamecube. (Even though its on 2 consoles, its still a GC game to me) Thanks to the new weak Virtual Console (seriously, where is the 16 bit Starfox or Earthbound?) and help from walkthroughs on this site, I was able to play the original on NES, the sequel (my least favorite as of now) and the 16bit A Link to The Past, which is tied with Twilight Princess as my favorite Zelda game.

As of now I haven't played the handhelds, Wind Waker or Majora's Mask (though I plan to download today and start playing to celebrate it). Also, I am someone who defends this series to tooth and nail, having gotten into arguments with a very immature instructor who bashes it (And right now he's working for Nickelodeon... on one of their more unimpressive shows no doubt).

PS Some who read my introduction topic will note one of the people I hate is Noah Antwiler, aka Spoony. His rather disrespectful words on Zelda is one of the reasons I hate him.

However, this isn't just a topic to say happy birthday to the NES game that spawned a wonderful series, this is also where I'd like to address something you might not have seen in my introduction topic.

I've already addressed my distaste for the unfunny, uninteresting and unlikeable Zelda cartoon by DiC. In 2009, the same day as Turtles Forever (25th anniversary of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) aired on TV, I met Sean Galloway in Burbank for an animation expo. He recognized me from Comic Con 2008 :) I met him again Free Comic Day 2010 near Hollywood.
For those who never heard of him, Sean Galloway is a self taught comic book artist and character designer who is most famous for his work on the Hellboy animated films and The Spectacular Spider-Man animated series (One of my all time favorite animated shows).
Upon meeting him that second time, I brought up how out of all of the cartoons I want to see come true (Besides a new Ghostbusters cartoon... since it is taking FOREVER for Ghostbusters 3) is a Legend of Zelda cartoon. After expressing that I'd rather forget about the 80's series, he said "Maybe you'll be the guy who makes it".

So there you go, that's my dream goal in life, a Legend of Zelda animated series... one put hard work into. And because nobody seems interested or bothers to make the money for it, I am willing to work my butt off to get enough to make 60 episodes of the series of my dreams. A lot of fans want a movie based on Zelda on par with Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter, I want an animated series based on Zelda on par with Gargoyles, Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Spectacular Spider-Man.

I'd describe the series, or at least how it is in my head currently, but I want to generate enough interest first.

Happy 25th Anniversary to Legend of Zelda! Even though I'm a day late. Ur dream goal is pretty awsome. I'll support u. To tell u the truth, I don't like the loz animated series. Never liked that program. But ur goal is interesting. And it's pretty cool!

I think it would be awesome to see a zelda animated series, although it would have to be created by the JAPANESE!!!!! or that guy you were talking about, the guy who did the hellboy animateds. They should also have it in anime style, the art preferably done by akira himekawa (the two women who did the zelda manga). also, they should try to stick with the games plotline. they should just make anime style episodes of the games, and with more interesting characters. Although they might run of games. oh yeah and no excuuuuuuuuse me princesss.(unless they make fun of it.)

That would b awsome! The "excuuuuse me princess" qoute is so ridiculous. Why did they think of that annoying qoute? I agree with u, GanonSlayr! They should stick to the game plot and no ridiculous qoutes! And one more thing, don't name the charcters differently. Like epona to catherine. The items plus the sword. Too lame, on the tv series, link had a small sword. It would b nice if it was larger, like the master sword. The Japenese can do a better job at these types of things.

An animated series would be cool, if done right! I´m sure Nintendo would be all for giving rights to a well-done production. I´m iffy about live-action; if they were to make one I would want it to be as close to the actual game, not something different or a mix.

Heh, nice idea. What I recommend doing is to make a few Zelda "short shorts" on your computer, then post them on whatever website you feel like, one that gets an average amount of visitors per day, like not YouTube or newgrounds, but not any websites made on webs.com either. When it starts to get popular, then post the videos on more websites. When it gets popular enough that you overhear people that you've never talked to mention it at/in your school/work/neighborhood/whatever, turn it into an actual series on the internet.

Just a suggestion as to how to make your dream come true (or something like that.)

I've long expressed that I'd love to see the story of Twilight Princess retold (with some additions, such as Link speaking, being a real character) in the form of an anime series done in a style like that used for "The Twelve Kingdoms" or possibly done in Hyao Miyazaki's style - with really detailed, lovingly painted backgrounds. If you're looking more toward Western-animation basis, you can't go wrong to emulate Avatar: The Last Airbender - truly a fantastic series.

Over 80 views? That definitely enough interest.

Some things I should bring up about my idea.

1) It isn't based on any specific game, its an original story that brings up elements from almost every game. For thosw wondering what kind of Hyrule it will be, the best way to describe it is Ocarina of Time meets Twilight Princess.
2) It follows a similar style to the games. There would be story arcs, each ending with two episodes of Link entering a dungeon, fighting a sub-boss, getting a new weapon and fighting the main boss, earning a medallion representing a sage.
3) Like Spectacular Spider-Man's cast, there are no original characters. Characters will be a bit different from their game counterparts, admittedly Navi will act a bit more like Tatl, but every character seen has been in at least 1 Zelda game.
4) Lampshade certain elements form the game for humor.
(After Kaepora's long winded speech about the importance of balancing work and fun)
Link: Wait, I blanked out in the middle, can you repeat-
Navi: NO!!!
or
Link: How did playing Zelda's lullaby make the waterfal split and the path appear?
Navi: Magic, of course.
Link: ... That's it? Just "magic". How does that work?
Navi: It's magic, I don't have to explain it.
Link: Yes, you do. Because I'm not a spellcaster and don't understand it, you need to explain something to understand it.
(Yes, that is a jab at Joe Quesada)
(For those wondering, I have downloaded Majora's Mask for my Wii and now the only games I haven't played are Wind Waker, the Four Swords saga and the handhelds. The CDI and Game & Watch games do not count. I plan on playing them at some point to get some ideas)

As of now, these are the characters I want to use in the show and my first pick voice actors.

Primary Characters
Link - Yuri Lowenthal (I've noticed he's a popular choice for Link)
Navi - Wendee Lee
Princess Zelda - Kate Higgins (Won't appear every episode)

Secondary Characters
Malon - Either Colleen O Shaughnessy or Laura Bailey
Talon - Jim Cummings
Renado - Keith David (I don't know why, maybe because I was watching Gargoyles and Goliath's voice was the first thing I heard)
Impa - Jennifer Hale
King Daphnes - Either Tom Kane or John DiMaggio
Hero's Spirit - Kevin Conroy
Kaepora Gaebora - Corey Burton (Mostly because his Zeus/Dooku voice reminds me of the owl from The Secret of Nimh)
Deku Tree - Peter Cullen (Because his voice fits something as big and wise as the Deku tree, deep, booming but very subdued in tone... that and I'm a Transformers fanatic and PROUD of it... WHERE IS SPECIAL OPS JAZZ?!)

Villains
General Onox - Beau Billingslea
Vaati - Liam O'Brien
Ganondorf/Ganon (Both human and beast form) - Clancy Brown (Another popular choice I've noticed by fans)

Dark Link would appear in late Season 2 (not sure who I'd pick, probably whoever voiced Psycho Red in Power Rangers in Space) and I'm thinking TC Carson would play some important character later on who gets defeated by Link (His getting beaten by Link is sort of me saying I think Zelda is better than the God of War series, where Carson voices the most overrated character ever, Kratos)

Kratos getting defeated by Link... that's something I'd love to see.

Bosses
The way this works is that each arc ends with Link finding the dungeon and beating its boss. There are the choices I have in mind right now.
Aquamentus (As the first boss of the first Zelda game, I felt it was necessary to have it as the first boss Link faces)
Volvagia
Morpheel
Trinexx or Stallord
Any Ice Boss
Mothula
Gohma

So as you'd imagine, I'm planning a lot and needless to say some of my first choice for characters will be either retired or dead... but for now until when I make like 1 billion dollars or however much I need to buy the rights to use Zelda characters, hire cast and crew and fund it all myself to prevent any meddling from whatever network I want this to air on, as well as learning all I can on animation and take writing classes to help me, these are just ideas. But these aren't ALL of my ideas.

I know of someone who could provide voices for at least a few characters. His name is Matthew Taranto. He does a Webcomic called Brawl in the Family. He's made a few Songs for it on special occasions. You could probably contact him through the comic's website, brawlinthefamily.com.

Oh, and I agree with you about Kratos (But he's still Awesomely Awesome.)
Lol.

EDIT: If you can't find a contact thing on the website, try the Forums. His Username is TriforceBun. You could join the Forums and PM him.

Are you going to include any "HEY, LISTEN" jokes? That seems kind of mandatory for a LoZ show where Navi appears. And I agree with i-am-link. You should probably showcase a couple of shorts on the internet before you really get into it. Maybe you could ask the admins of ZeldaDungeon to showcase it or something.

I'm not much of a fan of Link talking, but with good voice actors and good execution, the show could be a success.

I guess I should go into detail on the characters themselves to get an idea of their personalities.

Link - Sort of an amalgram of past Links, this Link's father was once one of the Royal Knights of Hyrule before an attack on their home village, The Hidden Village, took his life. His mother ran away with him to Ordon Village, where his Uncle, father's brother, lives. His uncle agrees to look after him while his mother goes searching for her mother, wanting the family to stay together. That was when he was 5, 3 years later he's a very confident but disrespectful boy who seems uninterested in making friends with the villagers, but is looked after by his uncle and raised to use a sword. That is until the day when his uncle, being a former knight, is asked by a favor from Impa, to look after Princess Zelda after a recent attack on the castle. At first Link is very rude to her, not caring she's a princess, until she mentions her mother is dead. Feeling some sense of kinship, Link actually begins to treat her better. He would actually do whatever to stop her crying, even if it means getting hit in the process. A year goes by and the two are the best of friends, that is until a horde of Moblins attack the village. Link finds his uncle dying and is given his sword. After the attack, the Royal Knights arrive and escort Zelda back to the castle, against her wishes. Link would be looked after by Talon, his uncle closest friend, but since that event Ordonians wouldn't hold much love for knights or violence, so Link was forced to abandon his dream of being a hero. 7 years later he's a friendly and out going young man, but lacks confidence due to years of practicing behind people's backs and having never been in an actual fight. That is until a fairy is sent to find "the green warrior". Afterwards, Moblins attack the village againt and kidnap several people to "feed the dragon". Link, after taking on one with a wooden sword, which breaks in battle, decides to save them. After a change of wardrobe and taking his uncle's sword, he does save the village, but loses people's trust due their irrational fear of violence.

Link starts out friendly but lacks confidence, despite having skill. Surprisingly, his years working in Lon Lon Ranch prepared him in ways most wouldn't see. Being more agile, strong armed and a quick thinker. As his adventure goes on, he learns to have confidence, as well as the dangers of over confidence, facing fear and letting go of the fear of failure. He maintains a rather friendly and approachable personality who hates seeing innocent people get hurt. Only in battle does he act more seriously and more confident. The main thing about his that after seeing Zelda for the first time since they were kids, he's first taken back by how beautiful she's become. Only after learning how much she's matured and how she's still the same person deep down, he falls in love. Because he's never felt like this before, he has trouble saying this to Zelda. Whenever he does get the confidence to tell her, something always goes awry. He's extremely dedicated to her and does what he can for her, even though he tends to be clumsy around her.

Princess Zelda - Although a kind and well mannered young girl, Princess Zelda is strong willed and dedicated to aiding people. Because she's reached the age of 16, her father wants her to find a suitable fiancee, but finds herself uninterested in the candidates. Zelda has had a rather strained relationship with her father since her mother's death, her father becoming more serious and distances himself from Zelda. Still, she wants to help her people and occasionally sneaks out to walk amongst the common people, feeling she needs to understand the people to lead them better. She would also study from books behind his back, some ancient and even too advanced for someone her age, giving her wisdom and learning some magic. Although she considers Link her best friend and trusts him, she's rather oblivious to his feelings for her and can be annoyed with his clumsiness, that she is actually the cause of. The more she spends time with him, the more she actually misses him when goes, sometimes causing her to think about what she really thinks of him.

Navi - Link's fairy companion who was asked by the Deku Tree to look for. Navi's personality, though helpful, can be annoying, even to Link. The most common example is that she teases him about his crush on Zelda and would actually try to say it out loud around others. However, she's never do anything to harm him. Navi looks to Link like he were a brother and always gives him a word of confidence. Navi has a unique power that I just came up with on the spot to explain something from the games. She has the power to make items disappears and reappear should Link think it once he agrees to be partners with her, explaining where all his weapons come and go.

Ganondorf Dragmire - His iteration is also an amalgram of past versions. Like his game counterpart, he's a gerudo who wants to take the land of Hyrule as an act of revenge for being poor. Unlike his counterpart, we're given more look into his childhood, who his father could have been, as well as how he viciously abused and betrayed his people. The story of Ganon was passed down but largely now seen as a fairy tale in recent years, as such he poses as his own descendent, claiming he wants to redeem the Gerudo. Ganondorf retains being ruthless and uncaring, showing no sign of honor and cares only to gain the Triforce to become Ganon once more.

General Onox - Ganondorf's right hand man. Onox was the more recent male born into the Gerudo, but like Link, he grew up with a village that didn't fully consider him one of their own, mostly due to the fact Onox was born the same day as Ganondorf Dragmire. After Ganondorf's return to the land of the living, Onox, seeing a bein of power worthy to be his master, pledges his undying loyalty to him. Onox is a savage brute who considers himself a gentleman. His loyalty to Ganondorf is unquestionable, seeing the evil king like a brother of sorts, which is one of the few reasons Ganondorf does not execute him as punishment. The one thing that rivals his loyalty is his hate for Link, who humiliates him in battle constantly.

Vaati - The mysterious wind mage who serves the role of "The Starscream" of the villains. Vaati's role is creating and releasing monsters from the Dark Realm and casting spells. Vaati shows no real signs of loyalty but Ganondorf tolerates it as Vaati is too useful. Despite this, Vaati's failures affects him the most, causing Ganondorf to relentlessly punish and torture Vaati. Vaati's one true goal, aside to overthrow Ganondorf and take over, involves Zelda. He seems to hold a strong interest in her, both because of her hidden power and out of lust.

Malon - The only friend Link has in Ordon since Zelda. As the daughter of his surrogate father, Malon always acts a bit bossy despite her kindness to the animals. She secretly harbors feeling for Link, who is clueless about them. She gets extremely jealous when she realizes who he really cares for.

Impa - Zelda's godmother and body guard. Impa is very silent and no-nonsense around everyone, at first she's like this very much to Link. She doesn't fully trust him at first, but gradually becomes friendlier to him when she comes to see he cares for Zelda for the right reasons. She also seems to see that Zelda may actually care for Link more than she realizes.

Heh, nice. I like Vaati's backstory. You should make Vaati secretly aid Link and Zelda occasionally, but only for his own purposes (and maybe out of his "interest" for Zelda. ;) )

I also liked Link's and Zelda's backstories, mostly the parts about their feelings for each other. :)

Malon's backstory made me snicker when it said that she gets jealous when she discovers who Link really cares for. >: )
