Skyward Sword Do Heart Medals Actually Count?

Hi, I just put my two heart medals on when I had 18 legit hearts, and obviously now I have 20... My question is, can I get more hearts pieces/containers? Or do the heart medals actually count? I kinda want to have all 20 legit hearts. Thanks for taking the time to answer!

Actually, to get all 20 hearts, you have to get the Life Medals.

yes they count as 2 of the 20 heart containers that you get in the game

Yeah when I first played I thought they didn't count as the 20 until my sister played and there were no more heart pieces when she had 18.

The heart medals count, which I think is kind of stupid given that there are only two of them, but that's just how it is :/
