Camera Suggestions?

So I am currently on a mad hunt to get a new camera. I am not planning on purchasing one new; either I will buy it on eBay or find a used one somewhere else. The problem is that I just don't know that much about cameras in general.

So what I am looking for...
I want a camera that can zoom pretty well and take quality photos. I would like it to have the ability to capture images from portraits to action shots. Also, a cool feature I would like is the ability to take video as well. It does not need to be small and compact. In fact, I would prefer if it isn't. So far I have just really looked at cannon cameras. I am thinking between these two:

So for all of you photography people, I am asking for your input. What is your favorite camera? What camera do you use? What would be your suggestions to me in my search for a camera?

I use it for all my videos, and the footage is always great.
