As of recently, I've been playing Dark Souls 1 and have been enjoying it. I think it's too early to call it my favorite franchise though.
Other contenders are:
- The Final Fantasy series
- Chrono Trigger/Cross
- Mario
I think a hearty half hour to an hour's good enough for me. I think if done well, in that time, you'd explore enough of the dungeon to understand its layout and piece things together and work from there to make your way to its end without feeling like it's extending the time you're there for.
I think this is another thing to think about entirely but by this ideology, considering we don't actually see another mermaid past Link's Awakening, would calling Link a mermaid when he wears the mermaid suit even be false? Like that tail supposedly gives him the capacity to swim and breathe...
