Well I know I needed a map to find my way around the first time I played through the game. It was I guess cheating, but also gave an appreciation for how immense it really was and how epic of a journey the game turned out to be.

It has a pretty mysterious feel to it, and it for sure isn't a happy place to be in. IIt is however a great piece of music that I thoroughly enjoy. I brings the temple together, catches your attention, but doesn't distract you from the game play

I agree with you I dont think it is small per say, and I actually think it is pretty great for what it is used for. Sure other Zelda games have a lot more exploration and secrets than OOT in their Overworld, but the hidden holes, big poes, and heart pieces did give some more flavor to it...
