Ah, just had a flashback of reaching the final world in Super Mario Brothers 2 and leaving the game paused because we had to go out, worried someone would touch it while I was gone. That was the NES experience right there.

Interesting you put A Link to the Past as your least favorite game, since it is typically so beloved. I'm curious on your reasons for feeling that way.

I too find PH and ST to be weaker entries. Out of curiosity, what did your friend say to help you see the games in a different light?

Zelda is an uncommon, but not unheard of name. Is the name so associated with the video game that it would be hard to name a child Zelda without many people assuming a connection? I've known several Marios, but in my adult life, and have never thought Super. But would a kid growing up now...

I think it is worth playing. The quirks of the touchscreen interface from Phantom Hourglass are worked out here, I felt. The train aspect is a unique element of the Zelda lore you only find here, too. It's not for everyone's tastes, but nothing is, really.

I actually thought PacMan. That was the first thing that popped into my mind, which sort of surprised me. I think PacMan must be a placeholder in my mind for video games as a piece of technology. I associate Mario, Sonic, etc with specific companies and marketing.

Hands down my favourite. I have a personal story about that, too. Used to play that song for my kids when they were toddlers all the time. They still call the Zelda games "Link save the day" because of this - as in, "Oh, are you playing LinkSaveTheDay now?" I'm not sure if they even realize why...
