The air surrounding the river is cold enough to damage Link as well, unless he has Cold Resistance. This can be achieved early in the game by acquiring the Warm Doublet or by cooking Spicy Peppers to create Spicy Sautéed Peppers. Spicy Peppers grow near the entrance gate east of the river, in the direction of the Temple of Time. They also appear northwest of the river near a Bokoblin camp.

Tears of the Kingdom
The River of the Dead is a frozen river, found on the Great Plateau. The water flows to the northwest, down a waterfall and into a large body of water, which is also where the Regencia River flows to. Given the cold nature of the river and surrounding area, Link will need to have some Cold Resistance to survive without taking any damage.

There is a broken bridge at the west side of the river that Link can partially navigate over. On the north side of the river, just east of the bridge, there is a Metal Plate. Underneath the plate is a partially buried Treasure Chest, which contains a Spicy Elixir. Just north of the waterfall, at the north end of the river, there is a buried treasure that holds a Royal Shield.

At the east end of the river, there are some ruins of a shack, which has a Cooking Pot, a bunch of Wood, and a treasure buried underground that contains a Stone Axe. There is a wooden create here as well, that when destroyed, will drop some Arrows.

River of the Dead Waterfall Cave
River of the Dead Waterfall Cave
The River of the Dead Waterfall Cave can be found behind the waterfall, at the south end of the river. The cave has a Bubbulfrog inside, but its main attraction is the Tadarok Shrine.

Korok Seeds
*At the east end of the river, there is some remnants of a broken bridge. Use nearby wood to create a bridge to reach the broken bridge. There are some fairy lights in the water. Create a bridge to reach the lights to get the Korok Seed.
*At the north end of the river there is a Korok trying to unite with his friend. Link can use the nearby wooden planks to create a raft like structure, using some Zonai devices to get across. Alternatively, Link can carry the Korok the long way around and drop him down from a higher cliff.

Trivia
*During the E3 2016 Treehouse demonstration, the River of the Dead was referred to as Hylia River. The Hylia River is actually located to the east of Hyrule Field, flowing from the Hyrule Castle Moat down to Lake Hylia, although the two waterways are tenuously linked as the River of the Dead's water flows *into* the Hyrule Castle Moat via the Regencia River.
