Backstory
Originally a young man, Kafei had an encounter with the Skull Kid and was turned into a child by the dark power of Majoras Mask. Later on, when he attempted to seek aid from the Great Fairy within North Clock Town, he ran into Sakon the Thief and was robbed of his invaluable wedding mask. He and Anju had made plans to exchange the masks of the sun and the moon, but with Kafei's Sun's Mask stolen, he could no longer proceed with the ceremony as was originally planned and went into hiding. Kafei's experience in this land display an interesting contrast with Link's adventure in Hyrule, being a child thrown into a man's body by the power of the Master Sword, Zelda sends Link back in time to experience his childhood while Kafei is an adult thrown into a child's body with the power of Majora's Mask. After reuniting this couple Link is able to come to terms and understand his fate why he is here, now. Kafei was a man put into a child's body by the Skull Kid. While Link may have killed the Skull Kid in Ocarina Of Time after he had finally saved the princess and became a man, she sent him back to experience the childhood he never had because he never truly grew up. Now as a child back in time Skull Kid is still around. Now using the evil magic of Majora's Mask, stolen from the Happy Mask Salesman, the man Kafei has been turned into a helpless child looking for his mask. Once Link retrieves Kafei's Mask from Madame Aroma, he begins the side quest to help Kafei reunite with Anju, as Kafei's mother more or less hired Link to investigate her son's disappearance.
