I’ve been going back and revisiting the Cowboy Bebop anime in preparation for the live-action Netflix take on the story, and I’ve found that while I enjoyed the music in it my first few times through the series, I’ve grown to have a much deeper appreciation for it this go around. I wouldn’t necessarily call myself a jazz fan per se, but I’ve never gone out of my way to listen to jazz tracks or add them to my daily work playlist on Spotify. With that said, hearing all of this wonderful music naturally made me think about how some classic Zelda tunes would make the transition to the genre, and I think I’ve found a great example of a successful conversion.

Courtesy of JackSquare, the timeless “Zelda’s Lullaby”, which debuted in A Link to the Past, proves that even slower, simple arrangements can work as Jazz tracks. Jack gives the classic tune the one-man-band treatment, providing impressive work on a variety of guitars, including a banjo! His deft use of a keyboard, too, makes “Zelda’s Lullaby” a toe-tapping, easy listening version of itself. It would certainly fit right in during less hectic segments in Cowboy Bebop. Or, dare I say, the after school portions of a Persona game? Regardless, Jack really flexes his talent here, and I’m going to be sure to check out some of his other work over on his YouTube page. I’d be remiss if I didn’t give a strong recommendation for you to do the same.

So what did you think? Have you developed a deeper appreciation for jazz? Let us know in the comments below!
