Today’s Fanart spotlight is a digital illustration from the incredibly talented UK born artist, Trudi Castle. She has worked on an impressive number of projects, including Halo Anniversary, the Crysis series, and a Lord of the Rings card game. It is quite a treat for the Zelda fandom when a prolific artist produces a piece of Zelda artwork, and this is certainly no exception with Trudi’s re-imagining of The Wind Waker’s beloved sage, Makar.

The artist describes this as a “Grown-up” version of Makar. No longer the sprout he once was, the Korok has turned into a colossus. His body is made up huge boulders with vibrant foliage growing between the cracks; overgrown and vine-like, it’s beginning to create something of an arm on Makar’s right side. His organic form still peeks out from the top of his head, as well as the two gigantic tree trunks that make up his legs. Beautiful orange leaves cascade onto his face, and one over-sized leaf serves as his mask. The fall colors portray the sage’s age and wisdom. Make the jump to see the entire image!

His size only becomes truly evident when compared to the landscape around him. Geological landmarks such as mountains and lakes are completely dwarfed by Makar’s form, looking more like puddles and rolling hills. The overcast sky seems to open up to illuminate the brilliant colors of the ancient Korok.

This is truly one of the most imaginative takes on the Zelda series I’ve ever come across, looking more like something out of a Miyazaki film than a piece of fanart.
