Zelda Fanart Spotlight – Leaving the Forest

Today’s Zelda Fanart Spotlight is on Deviantart artist kGoggles‘s Ocarina of Time fanart, ‘Leaving the Forest’. In this fanart it showcases one of the memorable cut scenes from the game when Link leaves Kokiri Forest for the first time. Before he completely leaves though, Saria comes to see him off and gives him the Fairy Ocarina to remember her by. In the background one can see other members of the Kokiri race standing in a crowd at one end of the bridge watching the exchange between the two friends. The village of the Kokiri can be seen the in the background as well. Although the village isn’t seen from this part of the forest, the artist took liberty with the layout of the fanart and decided to place it there.

How hard it must be to leave the only home you’ve known for all your life never to know if you’ll ever see it again.

This picture is very beautiful. It brings back the emotions I felt when I first played the game and this scene appeared. I felt sorry for Link having to leave his only home. He had never left the borders of the forest and I’m pretty sure he felt scared but at the same time excited to depart on a quest to go meet Princess Zelda. It certainly is one of those bittersweet moments.
