Within all the brilliance of Breath Of The Wild’s E3 show, Nintendo managed to make it even better by giving us new amiibo. So far we have seen Link, Horseback Link and a Guardian. We also got to see the function that the Wolf Link amiibo would have in the new games and I must say it’s a pretty awesome feature to have Wolf Link alongside you to help out. We have still yet to hear about any functionality of the new amiibos so its time for our team to speculate.

In this week’s edition of Zelda Dungeon Talks, the ZD team will share with us their opinion on the topic. As always, feel free to share your own opinion in the comments section.

After Twilight Princess HD’s Amiibo functionality, I was impressed, and it got me excited to see what Zelda Wii U’s possible Amiibo could bring us. Now, with 3 amazing new figures coming for the game (Get hyped for that HUGE Guardian!), I am incredibly pumped to see what they do. The Link figures might affect Link himself somehow, perhaps giving optional item upgrades or ammo. If we’re lucky, they could unlock something bigger, like a couple of new, optional sidequests. As for the Guardian, I hope that it opens some optional boss/monster fights, or perhaps somehow adds a new level of difficulty, like the Ganondorf figure in Twilight Princess HD. Either way, I am sure that they will prove quite worth buying, even if the in-game functions are less than amazing. I just can’t wait to see them on my shelf.

Hmmm, this is a tough question as I’m more interested in getting Amiibos for my growing collection rather than for the use of them, and I haven’t given much thought the the Breath of the Wild’s new Amiibo other than “Omg! Yes, I NEED those!!” I’m wondering if perhaps the Guardian Amiibo will make gameplay more difficult. Maybe it will prevent you from picking up any food or using it to increase health for a short while, or maybe it could cause more Guardians to wake as you come across them in the game as they seem to be a tough enemy. I’m also curious to see if the other Zelda related Amiibo aside from Wolf Link will have any functionality in Breath of the Wild as they did in Twilight Princess HD. Regardless, I’m excited to get my hands on these new ones, whether I use them in the new game or not, simply because they look amazing and my collection wouldn’t survive without them.

Breath of the Wild is already off to a great start in terms of its amiibo functionality. Just as it did with Twilight Princess HD, the Wolf Link-Midna amiibo provides a just-significant-enough addition to the game. The ability to bring Link’s feral form into the world as a companion is all kinds of neat, yet it doesn’t feel necessary to the core experience. Across the board, I’d like to see the three Breath of the Wild figures do something similar. I mean, I’m not saying that we should be able to summon a Guardian as a traveling buddy, although that would be awesome. Ideally, given that the core game boasts more than 100 shrines, I’d appreciate seeing a few more thrown in through the new amiibo.

I am really excited with what I have seen of the amiibo functionality for Breath of the Wild, incorporating the Wolf Link amiibo into the game and having him become a companion for Link was genius! As to what the new amiibo will do, the possibilities are endless… The Guardian could open up a special area or maybe even a special “trial” where you would have to make it through an entire dungeon of Guardians, similar things have already existed in the Zelda franchise before. The two new Link amiibo could allow you to instantly call your faithful steed, or maybe even have super speed or take less damage while on horseback, Maybe even have access to special arrows that inflict more damage or travel farther. As I said the possibilities are endless, I for one am very excited about Breath of the Wild and can’t wait until 2017!
