Zelda Artist Exposition: Ferisae

Suni Welcome one and all once again to an installment of Zelda Artist Exposition. The editorial series where I feature a Zelda artist, usually found on deviantART, to whom I think recognition and praise should be given. These posts serve to expose the artist’s talent and to spread the love of art in general. As I have said before and will continue to say, if you have an artist that you think is worth featuring, please leave a comment. I mentioned that my list for artists to feature is always shrinking so any recommendations are appreciated. Today’s feature is the deviantARTist Ferisae, suggested by commenter MiniJen.

However, before we jump in, I would like to talk about something. On the last Exposition I posted, I got a lot of discouraging comments. It was the one over TiuanaRui. They ranged from criticizing TiuanaRui herself and her style to accusing me of “overpraising.” Firstly, come on guys. It’s not cool to hate on an artist. You may not like her or like every artist I use, but every one of them deserves to be featured. TiuanaRui works hard, and I see her posting all the time. She gives effort to her drawing and has earned her popularity. Secondly, I am never “overpraising.” You may not think an artist is as good as another, but I have to like an artist to feature them, or at least the artist has to have empirically good or high quality art. So I am never just making up enthusiasm for an artist; I am just being honest. While TiuanaRui is not really among my favorite artists, I do think she is very good and I meant every word I wrote.

Anyway, our artist for today is Ferisae, alternatively known as just Feri. You may or may not have heard of her. I don’t tend to hear much about her, but she has over 8,000 watchers on deviantART. Plus, I see the piece, and the fours part of the drawing, that I used for the thumbnail above circulated around the website a lot. With a large gallery of over 500 works, a sizable portion focusing on Zelda, Ferisae has gained quite the following. I don’t really see her sort of style too often, at least in the shading, which may be why she has become rather popular. Although it could be because she posts so much and has been on the website for eight years. Her drawings tend to be both dark and light at the same time with heavy contrast. Usually this is displayed as a bright center figure with a darker background or vice versa. Her gallery is pretty miscellaneous in subject and style though. In the Zelda section of her gallery, there are many comics you can check out as well along with the generic drawings.

Below are some highlights of her gallery.

I’m not sure if there are any Shingeki no Kyojin, known in English as Attack on Titan, fans out there, but I just had to feature this last piece. I thought the crossover was too well done to ignore.
