A great load of info is currently being brought out of Nintendo’s newest upcoming Zelda handheld title for 3DS and the excitement across the digital frontier for the game is extraordinary! Nintendo Japan implied that Zelda 3DS would be know as A Link to the Past 2 yet Nintendo of America is not referring it by this name right now. The finalized title is still being considered according to Director of Product Marketing, Bill Trinen, and he also confirms that Zelda 3DS is a sequel to A Link to the Past because its story perspective has connections to the SNES classic. However, Mr. Trinen does state that Zelda 3DS is a brand new game with a unique new story with it being set in the same world.

Would you like to read what Mr. Trinen has to say about Zelda 3DS’ game title, and references to being a sequel? If so, click the jump below and take a glance!

Here’s what Mr. Trinen had to say about Zelda 3DS and its overall story:

“There is a ’2′ in the Japanese title. So, yeah, I think as I described today, it’s an all-new game, it is an all-new story. From a story perspective there are connections, so it does fall after A Link to the Past. And it’s set in the same world, but introduces that new gameplay mechanic. So, yeah, I guess by that definition …”

It’s great to know that this is not some remake for A Link to the Past but will contain a new story and does happen to be placed as a sequel to the revolutionary original title. Hopefully, Nintendo will think of a really grasping name for this Zelda 3DS title because “A Link to the Past 2” is not a fitting description, in my opinion, and probably won’t captivate people in a strong way. I also think using the A Link to the Past overworld for a brand new story is a great idea and should give younger gamers a good chance to explore what made the SNES title a hit!

What do you think of Zelda 3DS being a sequel to A Link to the Past? Do you think the title needs a better name than what Nintendo Japan has labelled it? Are you happy that the game has a brand new story rather than being a close remake?
