If you’re familiar with Yahoo!’s Broken News Daily, you’ll know that they take their goal of reporting a “ridiculous take on the news” very seriously. And a report from last week is no exception, with a small reference to Ocarina of Time thrown into the report for good measure. Though it is a bit silly, it’s nice to see that Zelda is still a part of popular culture, even if most of the time, the go-to game is Ocarina of Time. Hit the jump to see the report!

For those that didn’t watch, a retired locksmith apparently sold a set of keys on Ebay for $150. The catch? They were for the New York Fire Department to unlock locks in elevators, street lights, and other municipal appliances. Though the keys are old, they still work, and according to the Yahoo! video, the NYPD and NYFD are investigating the seller.

So where does the Zelda reference come in? Around the one minute mark, the report jokes on the difficult of the Water Temple: “…unfortunately none of them are a master key for the Water Temple….” Yeah, it was a bit of a stretch to reference Zelda, but I suppose that’s what makes the news so ridiculous.

What did you think of the reference? Tell us in the comments!
