In January, Nintendo revealed the Switch 2 with an enticing teaser video. Finally, after years of speculation and rumor, the company’s next console was shown off.

On one hand, this announcement was exciting! The Switch 2 boasts several new features that promise to be an upgrade over the current generation. The new device is larger, which should bring better ergonomics and a more brilliant screen. It’s also expected to have better performance and is sure to have a slew of marvelous games. The Joy-Cons even seem to support mouse-like functionality, which could open up new gameplay possibilities.

On the other hand, the Switch 2 looks pretty similar to the original. It maintains the same hybrid design that allows for both handheld and docked play. It also offers backwards compatibility with many Nintendo Switch games, so you shouldn’t need to upgrade to play your existing Switch library. And the detachable Joy-Cons, while connected with magnets instead of a physical rail, look just as detachable as they are on the current Switch. These improvements seem to be iterative, raising the question of whether the Switch 2 will do enough to stand out from its predecessor.

Nintendo will reveal more at their April 2 Nintendo Direct in less than a month. But until that exciting day, we want to hear from you. Do you think the Switch 2 will do enough to differentiate itself to justify an upgrade? Will the new features be sufficient to make it feel like a fresh experience, or will it feel like a “Switch 1.5?” Share your thoughts and expectations in the comments below!
