“In West Hyrule born and raised, in dungeons was where I spent most of my days!” This verse may have been pretty accurate for the Fresh Prince himself, Will Smith. Our friends over at Nintendo Life recently noticed a tweet which brought back into the light an interview with Will Smith from a 1992 issue of Nintendo Power. Not only did Will Smith enjoy Nintendo games in general, but he was very fond of The Legend of Zelda, particularly A Link to the Past.

It seems both Will Smith and his TV and music partner DJ Jazzy Jeff were given a variety of Nintendo games for the interview. They enjoyed them all, but Will liked A Link to the Past the most:

Nintendo Power: How did you like the new games we sent you?

Will: I liked them all, but I definitely liked The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past best.

NP: Did you play NCAA Basketball, Will?

Will: I tried it for a little bit, but as soon as I put the Link game in… I’ve found the two Pendants. I need to find one more before I can get the Master Sword.”

When asked what a game designed by him would be like, Will’s response was a Zelda-like game:

NP: If you could design your own game, what would it be like?

Will: It would probably be along the lines of a Zelda game, the kind of game that you can go back and play again and again.”

I sort of suspected Will Smith was a gamer from various scenes in the Men In Black films. It’s pretty awesome to hear he enjoyed Nintendo games back in the day and really liked A Link to the Past.

Do you think it is cool that Will Smith had an interest in the Zelda series? Do you think he still plays Zelda games? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
