In order to locate the temple, first Link must access the Deku Palace. Link finds out that the Monkey he encountered earlier has been imprisoned by the Deku King. The king tells Link that the Monkey is accountable for the disappearance of the Deku Princess. However, upon leaving, the Monkey's friend will tell him that he has been falsely accused and that Link must take the secret passage to rescue the Monkey. Link traverses through the tricky platforms while using the Deku Mask and reaches the room where the Monkey is imprisoned. He tells Link that the Princess is being held within Woodfall Temple and that he must save her before he is punished by the tribe.

The Monkey teaches Link the Sonata of Awakening, whch is key to opening the temple. Upon arriving in the Woodfall Swamp, Link carefully navigate the poisonous waters to reach the Deku platform. Here Link plays his newly acquired song to reveal the Woodfall Temple. It is here where Link obtains the Bow and defeats Odolwa, thus revealing one of the Four Giants. After completing the first dungeon of the game, the poisonous swamps are purified. Link rescues the Deku Princess, meaning the Monkey can safely leave his imprisonment in the Deku Palace.
