The White-Maned Lynel are found in Breath of the Wild. These beasts can typically be found on the outskirts of Hyrule, such as in the Hebra Mountains or Deep Akkala. There is also a White-Maned Lynel ontop of the Gerudo Summit.

Strategy

White-Maned Lynels have 4000 HP, making them twice as tough as the standard Red-Maned Lynels. There are 8 of these Lynels in the base game.

Watch out if it roars; it'll charge up and do an explosive attack in a very wide area around it; the best strategy is to just run as fast as you can away, or get a quick head-shot to cancel the attack, since if it hits it will most likely kill you outright. A good tactic to take one down is to use a powerful bow, stasis+ and a lot of arrows, just target it with stasis then keep shooting it in the head until it dies, since most of its attacks are charge attacks that can be canceled if you hit it in the head. Attempting to shoot a Lynel from a distance is usually a very poor idea; it will shoot elemental arrows at you, including Shock Arrows, which afflict critical damage, and if more than one projectile hits at once, you might die outright on the spot.

At least half of these Lynels will be located at cold areas like the Tabantha Tundra and the Gerudo Highlands, so cold resistance is recommended, including elixirs, foods and armor. Also, since they will be in the presence of snow, it's recommended to wear the Snow Boots so that Link's minimum sprinting speed is not hindered.

Trivia

• White-Maned Lynels are the strongest enemies in the overworld before power-scaling mechanics transform most of them into the even stronger Silver Lynels. As such, should Link not have encountered and slain many enemies before encountering it, and/or changed Spirit Orbs into heart/stamina containers, these Lynels are effectively the strongest enemy encountered.
• In Master Mode, a White-Maned Lynel is the strongest enemy found in the Great Plateau, pacing just southeast from the Temple of Time, and can be encountered while Link makes his way south to the Owa Daim Shrine. As it's found so uncharacteristically early in the game, it's nearly impossible to engage it in combat from the outset, making it a fool's errand, as there's little to no equipment and weapons effective enough to slay it.
• Six out of the eight White-Maned Lynels in Hyrule are located at the northernmost part of Hyrule, three of which are encountered on the Deplan Badlands, and three on the N. Tabantha Snowfield. Elsewhere, there's a Lynel at the Gerudo Summit and the individual at Hyrule Castle, this being the only White-Maned Lynel that does not transform into a Silver Lynel.
