Related

The Water of Life is an item that appears in Link's original two adventures on the Nintendo Entertainment System, The Legend of Zelda and The Adventure of Link.

The Legend of Zelda

"Drink this and all of Link's LIFE hearts will turn red. Red water turns blue when Link sips it. Drink the blue water and that's the last of the water."

The Legend of Zelda Manual[1]

The Water of Life is one of two Bottle items found in The Legend of Zelda. This potion will restore Link's health completely if he drinks it. The Life Potion can be bought from the Old Woman at any of the Potion Shops across Hyrule. These shops will only open after Link has, firstly, collected the Letter from the Old Man, and secondly he has shown the Letter to the Old Woman. From now on, Link can buy the Life Potion at these shops for the price of 40 Rupees.

The Adventure of Link

In Link's second adventure, the Water of Life is not a usable item, but a sidequest collectible needed to cure an old woman's daughter in the Harbor Town of Mido. With the water in hand, Link is granted access to the Wise Man that bestows the Fairy Spell.

Non-Canon Appearances

Zelda (Game & Watch)

The Water of Life may be randomly obtained by defeating a Goblin. If Link runs out of hearts while he has the Water of Life in his inventory, he is revived with five hearts.

BS The Legend of Zelda

As in the original game, Water of Life can be bought from Old Woman at any Potion Shop for 40 rupees after showing her the Letter, and functions the same way. It is also purchasable from a merchant outside Level 5 of MAP1 for 10 rupees between the 10 and 34 minute marks of Week 3. Buying it a second time while Water of Life is still in the inventory upgrades it to a 2nd Potion.
