Warping is a game mechanic that has appeared in almost every game in many varieties. The function allows near-instantaneous travel between two distant points on the overworld. Some games only allow warping between two pre-determined points, while others only specify the destinations and allow Link to warp to one of them at any time.

The Legend of Zelda

Both kinds of warping appear in The Legend of Zelda. When Link plays the Recorder, obtained in Level 5: The Lizard, he is transported to a random dungeon that he has completed.

After finding the Power Bracelet, Link can push aside certain boulders to reveal fixed warp points in the form of stairs leading underground. The locations of these stairs and the Power Bracelet are depicted in this map:

A Link to the Past

In A Link to the Past, Link can play the Ocarina to call a bird to carry him to one of several designated warp destinations. Unrelated to this, there are nine Warp Tiles scattered across the overworld which lead to the Dark World.

Link's Awakening

Several Warp Tiles can be found in Link's Awakening, which warp Link to other Warp Tiles. There are also four Warp Holes on Koholint Island that lead to one another.

Ocarina of Time

The Ocarina returns as the instrument of warping in Ocarina of Time, but requires Link to perform a specific song for each destination.

Majora's Mask

In Majora's Mask, playing the Song of Soaring warps Link to any of the Owl Statues that he has activated.

Oracle Games

Gale Seeds are found in Oracle of Seasons and Oracle of Ages, which allow Link to warp to other Seed Trees.

The Wind Waker

After learning the Ballad of Gales from Cyclos, Link can conduct the song to be carried by the wind to any of nine locations where Cyclones appear.

The Minish Cap

After completing the Fortress of Winds in The Minish Cap, Link can find the Ocarina of Wind and use it to warp to any Wind Crests that he's found.

Twilight Princess

Phantom Hourglass

Spirit Tracks

Main article: Archway Gate

In Spirit Tracks, the method of warping comes in the form of Archway Gates. These archways can be found throughout the Overworld just about the Spirit Tracks. Once activated, Link can pull the whistle on his Spirit Train to travel through the archway gate, making for quick navigation throughout the Overworld. Some of the Archway Gates are required in completing some of the Force Gem quests.
