In the first game Princess Zelda splits the Triforce of Wisdom into eight separate pieces and hides them within eight dungeons scattered throughout Hyrule in an attempt to prevent the evil Ganon from obtaining it. She then sends her attendant Impa to find a hero capable of destroying Ganon. Impa finds Link who agrees to help, he then must travel to the eight dungeons and retrieve the pieces. Only when the Triforce of Wisdom is assembled will Link be able to gain access to Ganon's dungeon on Death Mountain.

The Triforce of Wisdom was obtained back in The Legend of Zelda after Link reassembled the eight pieces. Along with the Triforce of Power and the Triforce of Courage from the Great Palace, Link uses the three Triforce pieces to awaken the sleeping Princess Zelda.

After defeating Ganon, Link uses the full Triforce to bring peace to Hyrule.

Ocarina of Time

After Link opens the Door of Time and removes the Master Sword from its pedestal, Link is sealed away within the Sacred Realm for seven years. Ganondorf uses this opportunity to enter the Sacred Realm and claim the Triforce, however upon touching the sacred relic it split into three pieces. The Triforce of Wisdom went into the hand of Zelda.

Link travels to the castle holding the Triforce which informs Link of his destiny in Holodrum and Labrynna.

When Tetra was younger, her mother gave her an unusual gold necklace and was told to guard it with her life, that necklace was a piece of the legendary Triforce of Wisdom. Upon meeting Daphnes Nohansen Hyrule in Hyrule Castle underneath the Great Sea, he informs Tetra of her destiny and he reassembles the Triforce of Wisdom with the lost part. Tetra is told that she is Princess Zelda and she is then garbed in the dress of the Princess.

Twilight Princess

The Triforce of Wisdom is held by Zelda in Twilight Princess

The Triforce of Wisdom remains in the hand of Zelda who also had been blessed with the gift as did Link and Ganondorf. Supposedly the Triforce of Wisdom prevents her from becoming a spirit when Hyrule is engulfed in twilight.

Skyward Sword

The Triforce of Wisdom obtained by Link in Sky Keep in Skyward Sword

The Triforce of Wisdom is located within Sky Keep beneath the Goddess Statue on Skyloft. It is required to eradicate The Imprisoned permanently from the world.
