Tough is an effect that is applied to food and elixirs in Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom.

Breath of the Wild

Tough meals are created when Link cooks Armoranth, Armored Carp, Ironshroom, Fortified Pumpkin, Ironshell Crab and/or Armored Porgy in a Cooking Pot as part of a meal (with no conflicting effects). As can be seen in the table below, Armored Porgy makes more powerful Tough meals than the alternatives for the same number of items.

Similarly, a Tough Elixir can be made by cooking Rugged Rhino Beetle with Monster Parts. Some monster parts, such as dragon parts, extend the effect for longer periods of time.

Consuming a Tough item gives Link Defense Up, increasing his damage resistance for a limited amount of time.

Effect Points

Effects in Breath of the Wild come in tiers. In making a Tough meal, a number of hidden points determine how strong the effect is, and thus how much it increases Link's damage resistance:

Effect points and durations of Tough ingredients are shown in the table below. Note that other, otherwise-neutral ingredients (notably dragon parts) also increase durations - see Cooking in Breath of the Wild § Durations for the full table. Cooking under a Blood Moon, using a Star Fragment or dragon part also increases duration or effect strength, and there is a random chance of this happening any other time.

Items Points Time Added
Armoranth 1 0:50
Armored Carp 2 0:50
Armored Porgy 3 0:50
Fortified Pumpkin 2 0:50
Ironshell Crab 2 0:50
Ironshroom 2 0:50

Tears of the Kingdom

This Tears of the Kingdom section is a stub. You can help the Zelda Dungeon Wiki by expanding it.

Tough meals and Tough Elixirs are generated as in Breath of the Wild.
