This article is about the character in non-canon games. For the character in The Wind Waker and other titles, see Link.

Toon Link is a character that appears in several non-canon titles. He is often based on Link's appearance in The Wind Waker.

Appearances

Super Smash Bros. Brawl

Toon Link appears as a playable character in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. His appearance is heavily based on The Wind Waker. He fights relatively the same as Link, but he moves faster. He can be unlocked by either doing 400 Brawls, or completing the Subspace Emissary and going through a hidden door on The Forest stage, or simply completing the Classic Mode.

Toon Link appears in some stickers with artwork from The Wind Waker. He also has two trophies:

Image Name Description How to Unlock
Toon Link Brawl Trophy.png Toon Link Link as he appeared in The Wind Waker and Phantom Hourglass, with big eyes and an expressive face. He lived peacefully on Outset Island until a bird captured his little sister, and he came to her rescue. In The Wind Waker, he had to crawl, press up to walls, and the like. His green clothes were worn on his 12th birthday and are the lucky outfit of the hero of legend. Complete Classic Mode as Toon Link
Toon Link Triforce Slash Trophy.png Triforce Slash (Toon Link) Toon Link's Final Smash. Hit an enemy with the light emanating from the Triforce mark on his hand to initiate the move. The enemy will be trapped within the Triforce and be unable to move—Toon Link will then rush in close and carve up his foe at lightning speed. The final blow will break the Triforce prison and send the opponent off the screen. Complete All-Star Mode as Toon Link

Hyrule Warriors Games

Toon Link appears in Hyrule Warriors as a playable character. He has two different weapons which include moves from both The Wind Waker and the DS titles, Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks. Instead of speaking or having Proxi say his lines like Link and Young Link, Aryll speaks for him. In the Wii U game, Toon Link is unlocked by purchasing the Legends Character Pack DLC. In Hyrule Warriors Legends and the Definitive Edition, he can be unlocked by completing square B-9 of the Great Sea map in Adventure Mode.

Weapons

Light Sword
Main article: Light Sword (Hyrule Warriors)

Toon Link’s default weapon is the light-element Light Sword. This allows him to use various moves based on his sword techniques in The Wind Waker, including leaping over enemies’ heads with his strong attack. This weapon can be upgraded into both the Lokomo Sword and the Phantom Sword.

Sand Wand

Toon Link can also unlock the fire-element Sand Wand, which is based on the weapon of the same name in Spirit Tracks. This weapon is available in the Phantom Hourglass & Spirit Tracks Pack DLC and can be unlocked by completing square D-2 of the Grand Travels Adventure Map. It allows Toon Link to summon blocks of sand and the Spirit Train.

Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U

Toon Link returns as a fighter once again in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U. He also received an Amiibo based on his artwork from this game.

Toon Link also has three trophies available:

Image (3DS) Image (Wii U) Name Description How to Unlock
Toon Link SSB3DS Trophy.png Toon Link SSBWU Trophy.png Toon Link This cartoonish version of Link is how he appeared in The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker and a few other titles. In Smash Bros., he uses moves much like his older, taller counterpart. His small size gives him extra speed, though, so take advantage of that to send your foes flying. Complete Classic Mode as Toon Link
Toon Link 3DS Alt Trophy.png Toon Link Wii U Alt Trophy.png Toon Link (Alt) Toon Link's Bomb move doesn't deal much damage, but the blast radius is pretty big. His bombs can be thrown in all directions, damaging or distracting your foes. Also, his up special Spin Attack keeps him airborne longer than Link's version. For some launching power, use the side smash attack. Available for purchase in the Trophy Shop after clearing Classic Mode as Toon Link
Toon Link Wii U Triforce Slash Trophy.png
(Wii U Only)
Triforce Slash (Toon Link) For Toon Link's Final Smash, a ray of light emanates from his hand, and whomever the light touches gets trapped in the Triforce. While they're defenseless, Toon Link strikes at foes repeatedly and then launches them a great distance. Just be sure to time the Final Smash well-if the ray of light doesn't touch anyone, nothing happens. At all. Complete All-Star Mode as Toon Link

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Toon Link appears once again as a fighter in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. He can be unlocked as a playable character by playing VS matches, clearing Classic Mode with Link and other particular characters, or by defeating his fighter spirit in the World of Light game mode. His fighter spirit can be unlocked by clearing Classic Mode with Toon Link or by purchasing it from the shop for 500G.
