After receiving the Wind Waker, Link are able to learn numerous songs to give magical effects. There are six songs in the game, with the Song of Passing being the only optional one. Below is a list of the different songs that Link can play on his Wind Waker as well as a short description of what the song does.

Wind's Requiem

Location: Dragon Roost Island

The Wind's Requiem is the first song that Link learns in The Wind Waker. This song can change the direction of the wind, as long as Link is outside. It can also be used to make treasure chests appear when Link is standing on certain tiles. It is the most used out of all of the songs due to its importance in sailing, but only in the original release of the game. In The Wind Waker HD, the Swift Sail effectively replaces Wind's Requiem for sailing.

Ballad of Gales

Location: Great Sea

Once Link obtains the Hero's Bow from the Tower of the Gods, he is able to shoot Cyclos while in one of his cyclones. Cyclos takes a liking to Link; saying that no one has even seen him in the cyclones before, much less shot him with an arrow. He teaches Link the Ballad of Gales which gives him the power to control the cyclones, giving him the ability to quickly teleport himself across the Great Sea.

Command Melody

Location: Tower of the Gods

The Command Melody is the third song obtained in The Wind Waker. It is learned in the Tower of the Gods and is important to that dungeon's completion as well as the Earth Temple and the Wind Temple. In addition to controlling statues, the Command Melody can also take control of Medli and Makar within their respective temples. It can be used to help Medli escape if she is captured by Floormasters or use her harp to reflect light, and it can allow Makar to fly up to high places or plant trees.

Earth God's Lyric

Location: Headstone Island

The Earth God's Lyric is the fourth song obtained in The Wind Waker. It is important to the plot of the game and necessary for the completion of the Earth Temple. It is used for four separate goals: to reveal the old sage Laruto, to awaken Medli as the new Sage, to destroy stone tablets within the Earth Temple, and to restore power to the Master Sword.

Wind God's Aria

Location: Gale Isle

The Wind God's Aria is the fifth song obtained in The Wind Waker. It is important to the plot of the game and necessary for the completion of the Wind Temple. It is used for four separate goals: to reveal the old sage Fado, to awaken Makar as the new Sage, to destroy stone tablets within the Wind Temple, and to restore power to the Master Sword.

Song of Passing

Location: Windfall Island

The Song of Passing is an optional song from The Wind Waker. It is the only song not necessary to complete the game. The Song of Passing changes night into day and day into night. There is no point in the game where this is ever required to progress, but it can be useful when trying to complete the Nintendo Gallery or another event that can only happen at a certain time of day, because Link does not have to wait for the time of day to change.
