The Legend of Zelda features 13 Heart Containers scattered across Hyrule. Eight of them will be obtained from defeating bosses; another five appear in secret locations across the map. This page shows the location of the extra five Heart Containers for the First Quest, as well as the locations for the Second Quest further down.

First Quest

    Location: Southeast Sea

    Conditions: Acquire Bombs

    Heart Container #1: From the start screen head right four screens and use a bomb on the wall to reveal a cave. Enter and claim the Heart Container. If you need bombs, head right four more screens and up one screen, enter the cave, and purchase some for 20 Rupees.

    Location: One screen north of Level 2: The Moon

    Conditions: Acquire Bombs

    Heart Container #2: From the start screen head right four screens, up five, and right one. Blast the right side of the large rock using a bomb to reveal this location. Inside you will find a Heart Container.

    Location: One screen south of Level 1: The Eagle

    Conditions: Acquire the Blue or Red Candle

    Heart Container #3: From the start screen head right one screen, up three, and left one. Burn the fifth bush from the right using the Candle to reveal a staircase. You can purchase the Blue Candle from many shops, or alternatively you can obtain the Red Candle in Level 7: The Demon.

    Heart Container #4: From the start screen head right eight screens, up four, and use the Raft to head up once more. Enter the cave here to claim the Heart Container.

    Conditions: Acquire the Power Bracelet

    Heart Container #1: This one can be found at the very beginning of the game, but is difficult to get to if you aren't prepared for the enemies around it. From the start screen head up one screen, left five, up one and down on the left side, left one. Then head through the Lost Woods and up four. You can find the Heart Container beneath a gravestone here.

    Conditions: Acquire the Recorder

    Heart Container #2: From the start screen, head right four screens, up four, and left one. Here you'll need to use the Recorder to reveal a hidden staircase, which can be found in Level 2.

    Conditions: Acquire the Recorder, Stepladder (Optional)

    Heart Container #3: This one is extremely hard to get to as it's very far away and the enemies nearby are very difficult to kill or even avoid.
