There are 16 Heart Containers you can collect in The Legend of Zelda. You start the game with 3, and you are rewarded with one from every boss you defeat. You can also locate 5 secret Heart Containers that this guide will help you locate. Most of them can be collected shortly after the beginning of the game.
First Quest
From the start, head four spaces right. Bomb the second space from the left of the upward path.
From the start, head right four spaces, up five, and right one. Bomb the bottom right side of the large rock to reveal this location.
From the start, head right one space, up three, and left one. Burn the fifth bush from the right to reveal a staircase.
From the start, head right eight spaces, up four and use the raft to head up once more.
From the start, head right eight spaces, and up two. Use the stepladder to climb to it.
Second Quest
From the start, head up one space, left five, up one and down on the left side, left one, through the Lost Woods and up four. You must have the Power Bracelet to push the second grave in the middle row.
