Story

The Wind Waker starts by telling the tale of Ocarina of Time and the Great Flood. After Ganondorf is defeated, the Hero of Time disappears, never to be seen again. When evil rose, no one was present to face it, and Hyrule was flooded by the godesses to protect its people. We learn that on a certain island, when a boy comes of age, he is garbed in the clothing of the Hero of Time. Our story begins on Link's birthday, his coming of age. After a mysterious bird, called the Helmaroc King, drops a girl into the island's forest, it snatches his sister, Arryl, off a bridge and flies away with her. The girl from the forest is named Tetra and she captains a pirate ship. Link catches a ride as a swabby while the pirates sail to the Forsaken Fortess, the lair of the bird. Link is shot out of a catapult into the fortress, and makes his way up it. He's thrown off and into the water, but is saved by The King of Red Lions, a talking boat. He agrees to help Link on his quest to save his sister and stop the evil man Ganondorf, who's risen again. Link finds the 3 Pearls of the Goddesses, which raise the Tower of the Gods. Inside, Link proves his worth and is able to go below the tower to the submerged Hyrule Castle. Inside, everything is frozen in time. Link pulls the Master Sword from its pedistal, and time begins to flow again in the castle. He goes back to the Forsaken Fortress to save his sister and confront the evil. He sets his sister free, and defeats the Helmaroc King. At the top he confront Ganondorf, but learns the Master Sword has lost the power to defeat evil, and the dragon from Dragon Roost Island, named Valoo, saves him and Tetra, who appeared at the fortress to help, before Ganondorf could defeat them. Link and Tetra return to Hyrule Castle underwater, and they learn the King of Red Lions is controlled by the King of Hyrule. Using a missing piece of Tetra's necklace, she is learned to have been Pricness Zelda in disguise, and she controls the Triforce of Wisdom. Link goes to awaken the Earth and Wind Sages, who restore the power back to the Master Sword. Link then finds the missing pieces of the Triforce of Courage. He and Zelda confront Ganondorf with the restored Master Sword and the Light Arrows, and by thrusting the Master Sword through his forehead, he turns Ganondorf to stone. They drop him and the Master Sword down into the Great Sea, and Link and Zelda, now Tetra again, go away.
