Story (Spoilers)

This game features Link and Zelda going to visit the four sword, an ancient blade said to split its user into four beings. It was used to defeat an ancient evil wind mage known as Vaati, and trap him inside with a seal. Zelda suspects that the seal is within breaking, which will release the fiend. After a bit of pointless dialogue, Vaati appears, and kidnaps the princess in traditional video game stereotypical fashion. He tells Link that he shall marry the maiden Zelda, and flees to his palace. Link is then knocked unconscious by some sort of odd phenomena. When he wakes, there are three fairies over where the princess had stood. They tell Link that he must save the princess, and that it's dangerous to go alone. So he takes the four sword, and splits in to four different clones of himself. Green, red, blue, and purple Link. After being transformed, the hero heads off to save the princess. The temples in the game can be done in any order, and contain no plot. However, at the end of each, a great fairy of the area gives him (or them) a silver or gold key to get into Vaati's palace. After finishing the three required levels (Sea of Trees, Death Mountain, and Talus Cave)the Links head to Vaati's palace in the sky. After finishing the level, and defeating the villain, the heroes return to the shrine with Zelda, and put the four sword back in its resting spot, with Vaati once more trapped inside. Link returns back to being one individual, and the two youth walk away from the shrine. And so ends the game. (Well, except for the hidden last level, but that's for a different time.)
