After Marin rescues [[Link (A Link to the Past)#Link's Awakening|Link]] after he washed up on the [[Toronbo Shores|shores]] of [[Koholint Island]], Tarin gives Link his [[shield]], explaining that he knew it was his since Link's name was on it.{{Ref|LA|114|Tarin}} After that, he goes into the [[Mysterious Forest]] to find some [[Sleepy Toadstool|mushroom]]s, but he is turned into a strange raccoon that claims to be the reason that Link can't find his way to the [[Tail Key]].{{Ref|LA|66|Raccoon}} Link returns him to normal by sprinkling some [[Magic Powder]] on him.{{Ref|LA|46|Raccoon}} Tarin believes the whole thing was a dream.{{Ref|LA|43|Tarin}}


Tarin is the friendly father of Marin, the girl who finds Link washed up on the beach of Koholint Island in Link's Awakening. Like Talon, he has a large resemblance to Mario, and this resemblance is intentional, as the game has many nods to Mario games.[1] Tarin has a big interest in mushrooms. In the ending scene, Tarin can be seen picking mushrooms in the Mysterious Woods.
Later, Tarin takes the [[Stick]] from Link during the [[Link's Awakening Trading Sequence|Trading Sequence]] in order to try and knock down a hive of [[bee]]s.{{Ref|LA|423|Tarin}} When the bees begin chasing Tarin, Link can take the [[Honeycomb]].{{Ref|LA|424|Tarin}}


In the [[The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX|DX version]] of the game, if Link approaches the [[Weathercock]] while traveling with Marin, the [[Photographer]] will line them up for a [[Link's Awakening Photographs|picture]]. However, Tarin will appear and insist on joining in the photo.{{Ref|LADX|649|Tarin}}


When Link wakes up at the beginning of the game, Tarin gives him his shield back. After Link retrieves his Sword, Tarin becomes lost in the Mysterious Woods and is transformed into a raccoon by eating a toadstool. Link breaks the curse by sprinkling Magic Powder on him, but Tarin later has no recollection of what happened to him and thinks it was a dream. Tarin is solely responsible for Link obtaining the Honeycomb being part of the trading sequence. When Link gives him the stick in Ukuku Prairie, Tarin knocks down the bee hive to which he is chased off by a swarm of angry bees.

    Tarin shares some of his physical traits with Link's Uncle, especially with how Link's Uncle is depicted on official artworks from A Link to the Past.

    Marin and Tarin share a number of similarities with Malon and Talon introduced in Ocarina of Time (the next game in the series), which may indicate that Malon and Talon were based off of these two characters.
 
    Tarin also bears many similarities with Mario. Both sport similar dark hair, hair style, a large nose, mustache, red shirt and an affinity for mushrooms. He also transforms into a raccoon/tanooki at one point, a power Mario has in several of his games.

Tarin is a character from Link's Awakening. He is the father of Marin. They live in a house in Mabe Village.

Link's Awakening

After Marin rescues Link after he washed up on the shores of Koholint Island, Tarin gives Link his shield, explaining that he knew it was his since Link's name was on it.[1] After that, he goes into the Mysterious Forest to find some mushrooms, but he is turned into a strange raccoon that claims to be the reason that Link can't find his way to the Tail Key.[2] Link returns him to normal by sprinkling some Magic Powder on him.[3] Tarin believes the whole thing was a dream.[4]
