Games

Learned from

Sometimes learned, sometimes a sword's innate ability.

Effect

Attack enemies from a safe distance.

The Sword Beam is the ability to fire an attack out of Link's Sword, usually when he is at full health. It usually does as much damage as Link's first sword in that game.

The Legend of Zelda

This is the first Zelda title to incorporate the sword beam (obviously). It is a ranged attack that can be activated when Link is at full health by pressing B.

Majora's Mask

This is the first 3D Zelda title to incorporate a sword beam. A sword beam may be shot out of the Double Helix Sword that belongs to Fierce Deity Link. If you have enough magic and are targeting an enemy, energy will be coming off of Fierce Deity Link. Once this happens, pressing B to slash will activate beams of light to come out of the Double Helix Sword, and cause some serious ranged damage.

Skyward Sword

Main article: Skyward Strike

Link can charge the Goddess Sword with energy from the Sky, by holding the sword skyward. The main purpose for the Skyward Strike is to activate Goddess Cubes or Goddess Crests. It also is used to draw on numerous objects like Goddess Walls. In battle, it may serve as a weak ranged attack, in comparison to a physical slash.
