Sturgeon is a character found in two games in The Legend of Zelda series.

Appearances

The Wind Waker

Sturgeon is the wise old man with the large upper head who lives on the top floor of the two floor house on Outset Island with his brother Orca in The Wind Waker. He would love to live in a world where there are no loud noises or disturbances, and despises the art of swordsmanship and the loud ways his brother Orca practices it downstairs. Even though he hates sword fighting, he used to be an accomplished swordsman when he was a young man. But with age, he grew to dislike it, and focuses his days on being locked in his room, reading factual books and expanding his endless knowledge. Because of his wiseness, he is known on Outset Island as the "Living Encyclopedia" and is commonly asked questions that the residents don't know the answers to. He angers very easily, and is sent over the deep end when his brother practices his strength downstairs and knocks everything off his shelves that he had placed so precariously there. Sturgeon is the character in this game who teaches Link the basic controls, for example, how to look around and L-Targeting. Lined along Sturgeon's walls are notes on paper he wrote to himself about useful items like how to save, how to use maps, and what Recovery Hearts are used for. When he was a young man, he set out with his brother to find and collect ten Knight's Crests, which was needed to become a true swordsman and learn a special move. They never found them all however, and Orca left the task to Link.

Sturgeon also makes a brief appearance in The Minish Cap, where he is found in the library commenting on how he thinks the books are moving by themselves.[1] The Minish, however, are responsible for these tricks. Sturgeon can only be found after Link gains access to the Royal Hyrule Library, shortly after completing the Fortress of Winds. Sturgeon works at the Library and helps reshelve the books that are returned.[2] He remains in the Library for the duration of the game.

Link is able to fuse Green Kinstones at various points in the game with Sturgeon. As it is a Green Kinstone fusion, it is not set to a specific treasure chest, but instead, one of the many possible treasure chests. There is one random Red Kinstone within the game that opens up a location in the Hyrule Castle Garden leading to a Piece of Heart, as well as a random Blue Kinstone that opens up a tree in North Hyrule Field leading to a Fairy Fountain. Sturgeon is one of the many characters in which Link can make these Kinstone fusions with.
