Overview

Stone Talus is one of the many overworld bosses found in Breath of the Wild. It disguises itself in the ground as a collection of rocks, and the boss forms as Link draws near. The Stone Talus is the first overworld boss the player can encounter in the game, situated in the Forest of Spirits on the Great Plateau.

There are 40 of these creatures spread throughout all of Hyrule. Along with the standard "stone version," there are also the Frost Talus, the Igneo Talus, the Stone Talus (Luminous), and the Stone Talus (Rare). Defeating all 40 and reporting to Kilton at his Monster Shop rewards the Medal of Honor: Talus.

Locations

The boss can be found all over Hyrule, and it has many different variants, such as the Frost Talus which can be found in very cold areas, and Igneo Talus which can be found in hot areas of the game. Be sure to check out our Interactive Map for all the different locations the Stone Talus and its variants can be found.

Strategy

There is only one phase of this boss fight, so the strategy is very simple. Exposed on the top, or on the side, of all Stone Talus' is an Ore Deposit or Rare Ore, which is its weak point. A bow is very useful during one of these fights. On a successful hit to its weak point, the Stone Talus will drop to the ground. Link can then climb onto the top of the boss, where he can deal devastating damage to his weak point.

While on top of the Talus, the player should use the most powerful weapon in their arsenal and charge a spin attack to deal maximum damage before Link is knocked off. This boss only has one offensive attack, where he throws a punch at Link. The Talus will lose that arm in the process. This attack can be easily avoided by running. After its arm is lost, it will attempt to create a new one from the ground. At this point, Link is able to climb up to the top once more and repeat the strategy.

If the player has no arrows or bows, Remote Bombs can be used on the Stone Talus' arms. Destroying the arms will force it to create a new one, which is the perfect time to climb up and attack.
