The Stepladder[2] is an item Link can collect in the fourth dungeon of The Legend of Zelda, Level 4: The Snake. This item is used to allow Link to cross small holes and rivers that are as wide as he is.[1] This item is required to retrieve one of the five overworld Heart Containers found in the game. Also, there are numerous small holes in the floor of dungeons throughout the game that can be crossed, either for shortcut purposes or because they're in the way.
