Stalnox are bosses that appear in Breath of the Wild and Age of Calamity.

Breath of the Wild

"The mere remains of what was once a giant monster known as a Hinox. These skeletal beasts appear at nighttime. Much like their living counterparts, the Stalnox will tear entire trees from the ground to use as weapons. Furthermore, even if it appears defeated at first, it will keep coming back for more as long as its eye is left intact."

The Stalnox is a skeletal variant of the Hinox. It follows some of the rules of other skeletal monsters: at daylight, the Stalnox collapses and becomes a collection of bones again.

Strategy

As with any Hinox, their biggest weakness is the eye. A well-aimed shot will give Link a chance to land more hits. There is only one difference: unlike the Hinox, the Stalnox takes more than just arrows. Once their health is reduced to below 50%, the eye will fall out of its socket and will be vulnerable to close-combat sword strikes. This is the only way to deal damage to the beast during this phase, as the bones become invincible. After Link lands a couple of hits on the eye, it will return to its owner and will need to be knocked out again. At this stage, the Stalnox will become wise to the attacks, and begin covering its eye. The best strategy is to get close to the Stalnox, and let it attack. Then, loose an arrow into the eye once it is exposed, and it will drop out.

One tactic that can be used if Link runs out of melee weapons is to shoot the eye, which causes the Stalnox to drop to the ground. Link can run up to it to find more weapons.

When out of the socket, the eye is knocked out of range whenever struck, so it can be stopped with Stasis to prevent it from scurrying away, or basically cornering the eye against rocks so that the knock back doesn't happen.

Stalnox and the Stal Enemy Family

The Stalnox is a stal enemy (or skeletal enemy). That means many things. As a member, here are some things they can do.

• At night, they can rise up if Link gets too close.
• At dawn, 5:00 a.m., they will descend into the ground, and the battle ends.
• At low health, their eye pops out, requiring Link to deal consecutive blows to kill it.
• Use their bones to fight (Bone toss: )
• They can only drop materials that don't decay. In the case of the Stalnox, it only drops the Hinox Tooth.

Age of Calamity

A Stalnox first appears in Age of Calamity during the Freeing Korok Forest scenario. It fights similar to its Hinox counterparts by launching themselves into the air, trying to fall on top of a nearby warrior. The Stalnox will also grab bones from its body, using them as weapons to attack a nearby warrior.

Each time a Stalnox is defeated, the player will receive a Hinox Trophy. These can be used to complete quests or upgrade weapons of the various warriors.

Trivia

• The Stalnox's eye can be separated from its body to prevent it from regenerating, and can be carried anywhere. If the eye makes it through the daylight without regenerating the skeleton, it won't disappear as long as Link is carrying it.
• If trying to complete the Medal of Honor: Hinox given by Kilton, it's important to make sure that Stalnoxes are completely slain, meaning, their eye and body dissipate into Malice. If one teleports away from the Stalnox before the kill animation ends, the kill won't count.
• A Stalnox is the boss of the Lockup dungeons of Hyrule Castle. Slaying it rewards Link with the Hylian Shield. The Shield can be henceforth purchased from Granté at Tarrey Town for 3000 Rupees each.
• In the Trial of the Sword, a Stalnox is the first boss for the Final Trials (Floor 5), which takes place under thunderstorm conditions. As with all enemies in the Trials, it drops no monster parts, but it does drop a trio of elemental weapons.
