Soft Soil is a reoccurring type of terrain in many Legend of Zelda titles. Its common characteristics are that Link can usually plant small trees or seeds, or Link can dig up the soft soil.

Ocarina of Time

In Ocarina of Time, there are 10 soft soils found throughout Hyrule. Link can plant a Magic Bean in it, which is acquired by the Magic Bean Salesman in Zora's River. The development of the plant is very slow, thus Link has to become an adult to see it in full maturity. The matured sprout can be used to transport to areas where Pieces of Heart, Gold Skulltulas, and shortcuts can be found.

Oracle of Seasons and Oracle of Ages

In Oracle of Seasons and Oracle of Ages Link can plant a Gasha Seed in the soft soil. As time passes, the seed will eventually sprout into a much larger Gasha Tree and will produce a Gasha Nut. Inside of a Gasha Nut, Link can fince a Piece of Heart, Magical Rings, Magic Potions, Rupees, or Recovery Hearts.

According to Bipin, soft soil locations that are harder to come by will produce rare Gasha Nut Treasure.

There are a few Magical Rings that Link can wear that effect soft soil locations and the Gasha Nuts. If Link wears the Discovery Ring, Link will be able to detect soft soil that is suitable for planting a Gasha Seed. If Link wears the Gasha Ring, the reward found within the Gasha Nut will usually improve.

Trivia

In Oracle of Seasons and Oracle of Ages, Soft Soil appears to have great importance, as an Essence of Time and an Essence of Nature are named after Soil. This includes the Sacred Soil and Fertile Soil respectively.

In Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask, if Link releases bugs on the Soft Soil after planting a Magic Bean in it, a Gold Skulltula will pop out if it.
