Small keys have been around for a long time, ever since the first Zelda game. Keys are used to open a locked door small keys are usually found in small chests, and usually guarded by a puzzle or enemy. Sometimes they are held by a specific enemy, usually such enemys are mini-bosses. They do not open the door to boss rooms, for said doors, you need the [[Boss Key]], [[Big Key]] or [[Gold Sculpture]] depending on which Zelda game you happen to be playing.
