The Shadow Crystal is an item in Twilight Princess. Once Link has completed the Lakebed Temple, he returns to the Lanayru Spring where Lanayru reside, and Zant will thereafter come by a shock and eventually create a lethal ball to throw at Midna. Link attempts to defend Midna, and with a touch of the ball, Link gets the Shadow Crystal stuck to his head, and it will in due course push in farther inside Link's head. Link is thus unable to return to his human form. Link does not directly use the item, rather, Midna uses it in conjunction with the Master Sword to transform Link into his feral form at will. The item is "obtained" after Link reaches the Sacred Grove and retrieves the Master Sword from its pedestal.
