The Runaway Item Seller is a character from A Link Between Worlds. He used to own the item shop in Kakariko Village, but he gave almost all of his profits to the Street Merchant outside of his shop to buy an apple.[1] Despite being the best apple he had ever tasted, his wife became angry and yelled at him.[2] On his next lunch break, he decided to run away and not return.[3]
Link later finds him in a hidden cave north of the Swamp Palace. The hero must use a bomb on the wall in between two rocks in order to reveal the entrance. The Runaway Item Seller is then found trembling in the corner, pleading that he is innocent.[4] When he notices Link, he immediately asks if his wife sent him.[5] He is surprised that Link found him, because he sealed up the entrance so that no one would find it, and he fears that Link will take him back to Kakariko Village.[6] Once he realizes Link is harmless, he asks Link for help and explains his story.[7] At the end, he tells Link that he thinks he should go and hide away in a secluded area, such as a dungeon.[8] However, he knows that they are dangerous, so he wants a Scoot Fruit that can help him escape if necessary.[9] He asks Link to get him one.[10]
The Runaway Item Seller thanks Link greatly once the hero does return with a Scoot Fruit and gives him 100 Rupees.[11][12] However, even with the item, the Runaway Item has trouble convincing himself that he is safe.[13] He is unable to decide if he would rather stay in the cave or head to a dungeon. [14] Regardless, he is happy to have the Scoot Fruit as a backup plan.[15]
