Phantom Hourglass features 13 Heart Containers scattered across the World of the Ocean King, giving Link a maximum of 16 hearts. Of the 13 Heart Containers Link can find, 7 of them are found as rewards for defeating the various bosses at the 7 Temples scattered around the world. There are then 6 additional Heart Containers to find. Below is listing of all the heart containers, in order that you can acquire them.
Location: Temple of Fire
Conditions: Defeat Blaaz
Heart Container #1: Given to Link as a reward for defeating Blaaz, the boss of the Temple of Fire.
Location: Masked Beedle's Shop Ship
Conditions: Enough Rupees (1,500)
Heart Container #2: Purchased from Masked Beedle for 1,500 Rupees in his Shop Ship. The Masked Beedle's ship only shows up at certain times during the day. It appears from 10PM - 12AM on weekdays and 10AM - 12PM on weekends. You can adjust your console's internal clock, save your game, and reload it to find Masked Beedle at sea.
Location: Bannan Island - Old Wayfarer's Hut
Conditions: Acquire the Fishing Rod, Big Catch Lure

Link will first need to get the Fishing Rod by uniting Joanne with the Old Wayfarer. He will then need to catch a Skippyjack, a Toona, and a Loovar. These fish must then be shown to the Old Wayfarer. He will give Link the Big Catch Lure. This allows Link to catch Rusty Swordfish. After showing a Rusty Swordfish to the Old Wayfarer, and he will tell Link about the legendary fish, Neptoona. Once Neptoona is captured and shown to the Old Wayfarer, the Old Wayfarer will give Link the Heart Container.
Location: Traveler's Ship
Conditions: Defeat Nyeve four times
Heart Container #4: Set sail for the Traveler's Ship in the Northwest Quadrant. Speak to the man and he will offer to train you. Strike at him a few times and he'll be impressed, rewarding Link with the label of Apprentice to the Hero along with a treasure. Leave the ship and return to battle him once again. Hit him a few times and he'll refer to you as Half a Hero and will reward you with a second treasure. Leave and return once again. Repeatedly strike at him and he'll give in once again, this time referring to you as Two Thirds a Hero. He will give Link yet another treasure.
Leave and then return for a fourth battle. This time the challenge is much more difficult as the hero will strike back at Link. The goal here is to hit the hero 100 times before he strikes you 3 times. If you successfully hit him over 100 times, he will reward you with a Heart Container.
Location: Temple of Wind
Conditions: Defeat Cyclok
Heart Container #5: Given to Link as a reward for defeating Cyclok, the boss of the Temple of Wind.
Location: Temple of Courage
Conditions: Defeat Crayk
Heart Container #6: Given to Link as a reward for defeating Crayk, the boss of the Temple of Courage.
Location: Molida Island
Conditions: Acquire the Bow
Heart Container #7: After completing the Temple of Courage, Romanos has opened up the Molida Island Shooting Gallery. This mini-game allows you to use your newly acquired Bow to shoot some moving targets. You need to score over 2,000 points in the shooting range and this can be quite difficult. Hitting consecutive targets without missing will up your score and is essential to reach 2,000 points. Try to avoid the human targets that come across near the end of the game.
Location: Ghost Ship
Conditions: Defeat the Cubus Sisters
Heart Container #8: Given to Link as a reward for defeating the Cubus Sisters, the boss of the Ghost Ship.
Location: Goron Temple
Conditions: Defeat Dongorongo
Heart Container #9: Given to Link as a reward for defeating Dongorongo, the boss of the Goron Temple.
Location: Island Shop
Conditions: Enough Rupees (2,000)
Heart Container #10: After purchasing both the Quiver Upgrade and Bombchu Upgrade from one of the stores, a valuable Heart Container becomes available for sale. You can purchase this Heart Container for 2,000 Rupees and it is available at any of the shops at Mercay Island, Molida Island, or Goron Island.
Location: Temple of Ice
Conditions: Defeat Gleeok
Heart Container #11: Given to Link as a reward for defeating Gleeok, the boss of the Temple of Ice.
Location: Maze Island
Conditions: Acquire Northeastern Sea Chart
Heart Container #12: Complete the Expert Map at Maze Island. Refer to our Maze Island Guide for detailed instructions.
Location: Mutoh's Temple
Conditions: Defeat Eox
Heart Container #13: Given to Link as a reward for defeating Eox, the boss of Mutoh's Temple.
