Link begins the adventure through Labrynna with three full heart containers. There are twelve quarter heart pieces scattered throughout the game. There is also full heart container after each boss, bringing Link's total life to fourteen hearts after obtaining each heart piece and heart container.
Heart Piece #01
Location: Black Tower
After obtaining the Shovel from the Black Tower, dig the pile of dirt to the right. The first Heart Piece can be found here.
Heart Piece #02
Location: Yoll Graveyard
After completing Spirit's Grave, head to where Link met the kids. Go down one more screen and lift the rock to obtain the next Heart Piece.
Heart Piece #03
Location: Various
When meeting with Maple, a heart piece may fall out by pure chance. It's totally random, and may take a long time of game play in order to obtain.
Heart Piece #04
Location: Various
This Heart Piece requires planting a Gasha Seed, and it is totally random. Keep planting as much as possible to produce a Gasha Nut.
Heart Piece #05
Location: Maku Road
In the Maku path, there is one in a room that has blocks surrounding it. Push the bottom left block up and the one that was next to it to the left to find the Heart Piece.
Heart Piece #06
Location: Deku Forest
From Wing Dungeon, head left two screens and then down one more. Burn the tree and then go inside. Take a right and collect the next Heart Piece.
Heart Piece #07
Location: Restoration Wall
Start at the ember tree in Lynna Village, and head up one screen and left five screens. Now head up another two screens and there should be a cave. Enter the cave and use the Roc's Feather and Power Bracelet to make it to the Heart Piece. Reaching this Heart Piece must be done in the past.
Heart Piece #08
Location: Symmetry Village
In Symmetry Village by the center house in the past, head left, down, left, up, and left. Stay on the bottom part of the screen and play the tune of currents to return to the present. Head right one screen and collect the Heart Piece.
Heart Piece #09
Location: Lynna Village
In the past by the ember seed tree in Lynna Village, head up one screen. Now go the left most tree and play the tune of currents to appear inside the gate by the shop. Go down the stairs and buy the Heart Piece for 500 Rupees.
Heart Piece #10
Location: Rolling Ridge
In the present by the Crown Dungeon is the spot where Link saved the elder Goron. Jump off the cliff, then head down one screen and left two screens. Enter the nearby cave, and then bomb the cracked wall a few spaces below him and pick up the Heart Piece.
Heart Piece #11
Location: Rolling Ridge
In the past by Mermaid's Cave, go left one screen and up another. Head into the cave and walk all the way to the end. Go out and then go right one screen. Now go to the upper right-hand spot and switch to the present. Collect the Heart Piece nearby.
Heart Piece #12
Location: Crescent Island
On Crescent Island in the present head to where Link first met Dimitri. Swim up one screen and right two screens. Swim through the little passage and go down twice. Now swim left, down, left and twice up. Finally enter the cave and open the chest to find the Heart Piece.
