Various Upgrades can be obtained by Link in Ocarina of Time.

Bomb Bag

Initial Bomb Bag

BombBagG Large.png

The Bomb Bag is the dungeon item of Dodongo's Cavern. It holds 20 bombs.

It can be upgraded twice, to the Big Bomb Bag and Biggest Bomb Bag. Which order the upgrades are performed in does not matter, each will upgrade Link's carrying capacity by 10 bombs, to an ultimate maximum of 40:

Bombchu Bowling Alley Upgrade

Big Bomb Bag.png

One Bomb Bag upgrade is available at the Bombchu Bowling Alley as a prize for hitting all three targets once, using a maximum of 10 Bombchu. There are four other prizes; which one Link is playing for is shown only after he has paid.

Hot Rodder Goron Upgrade

BiggestBombBagG Large.png

The other Bomb Bag upgrade is available in Goron City. By using a bomb to stop the giant Hot Rodder Goron from rolling within the enclosed corridor, he will upgrade Link's Bomb Bag by 10 bombs.

Deku Seeds Bullet Bag

Initial Bullet Bag

The Fairy Slingshot is the dungeon item Inside the Deku Tree, and comes with a Deku Seeds Bullet Bag which holds 30 Deku Seeds. This can be upgraded twice, each time increasing the capacity by 10 Deku Seeds, to an ultimate maximum of 50 Deku Seeds. Which order the upgrades are performed in makes no difference:

Lost Woods Target Upgrade

Deku-Seed-Bullet-Bag-Big.png

Coming into the Lost Woods from the northern exit from Kokiri Forest, turn right and go through the doorway to find a target hanging from a dead tree. Using the Fairy Slingshot to shoot the centre three times in a row (causing "100" to appear each time) will lead the Deku Scrub on top of the stump to walk out and spit an upgraded Bullet Bag to Link.

Market Shooting Gallery Upgrade

OoT Deku Seed Bullet Bag.png

Successfully shooting all the targets with the Fairy Slingshot within one game of the Shooting Gallery in the Hyrule Castle Town Market gives an upgraded Bullet Bag as the prize.

Deku Nuts

Initial Deku Nut Capacity

Deku-Nut-Large.png

Link can carry up to 20 Deku Nuts, useful for stunning enemies, from the start of Ocarina of Time.

Business Scrub Deku Nut Upgrade

DekuNutex1.png

A boulder outside the Sacred Forest Meadow conceals a Secret Grotto. Destroying the boulder with a bomb opens the grotto, which holds two Business Scrubs. Bounce back the nuts they launch and then go speak to the first one, who will sell Link a Deku Nut capacity upgrade for 40 Rupees.

Forest Stage Deku Nut Upgrade

DekuNutex2.png

Deep in the Lost Woods is the Forest Stage. If Link goes inside wearing the Mask of Truth, the young Deku Scrubs will react. Then go and speak to the Forest Stage Leader, who will tell Link that all of the Deku Scrubs agree that he has a horrible face, but they will give Link a Deku Nut capacity upgrade to make him go away.

Note: Due to a bug, in the Nintendo 64 version of Ocarina of Time this upgrade can only be obtained before collecting the Poacher's Saw as part of the Adult Trading Sequence. This does not affect Ocarina of Time 3D.

Deku Sticks

Initial Deku Stick Capacity

Deku Stick.png

Link can carry up to 10 Deku Sticks from the start of Ocarina of Time. They are useful for lighting torches and deal twice the damage of the Kokiri Sword, but break upon hitting any object and cannot be used as Adult Link.

Business Scrub Deku Stick Upgrade

DekuStickex1.png

Below the bridge connecting Kokiri Forest to Hyrule Field, there is a Business Scrub. Bounce back the nuts they launch and, once stunned, they will sell Link a Deku Stick capacity upgrade for 40 Rupees.

Forest Stage Deku Stick Upgrade

DekuStickex2.png

Deep in the Lost Woods is the Forest Stage. If Link goes inside wearing the Skull Mask, the young Deku Scrubs will react. Then go and speak to the Forest Stage Leader, who will tell Link that all of the Deku Scrubs agree that he looks like their totem, so they will reward him with a Deku Stick upgrade.

Double Defense

Double Defense Hearts - OOT3D icon.png

Double Defense is obtained from the Great Fairy of Courage in the grounds around Ganon's Castle. The Golden Gauntlets are required to move the giant stone, near the remains of the gatehouse of Hyrule Castle, out of the way to allow Link to enter the Great Fairy's Fountain. The enhanced defensive power is visually shown by adding a white line around Link's Heart Containers.

Magic Meter

Main article: Magic Meter

Initial Magic Meter

Magic Meter - OOT64.png

Obtained from the Great Fairy of Power on the summit of Death Mountain, along with a magic-charged Spin Attack.

Darunia tells Link to go and see her immediately after the completion of Dodongo's Cavern. Travelling to the top of the Death Mountain Trail from there leads to a bombable wall on top, which opens the Great Fairy's Fountain. Playing Zelda's Lullaby on the Triforce mark inside summons the Great Fairy, who endows Link with magic.

Double Magic Meter

Magic Meter Double - OOT64.png

Obtained from the Great Fairy of Wisdom inside the Death Mountain Crater.

The Megaton Hammer from the Fire Temple is required to break the boulders and allow entry to the Great Fairy's Fountain. Again, playing Zelda's Lullaby on the Triforce mark summons the fairy, who grants her boon.

Quiver

Initial Quiver

Quiver-Model.png

The Fairy Bow is the dungeon item of the Forest Temple, and comes with a Quiver which holds 30 Arrows. This can be upgraded twice, each time increasing the capacity by 10 arrows, to an ultimate maximum of 50 arrows. Which order the upgrades are performed in makes no difference:

Kakariko Village Shooting Gallery Upgrade

Quiver-Large-Model.png

After obtaining the Fairy Bow, successfully shooting all the targets with arrows within one game of the Shooting Gallery in Kakariko Village gives an upgraded Quiver as the prize.

Horseback Archery Upgrade

Main article: Horseback Archery
Biggest Quiver - OOT64 Get Item model.png

If Link scores 1000 points at Horseback Archery, the Gerudo Master of Horseback Archery will tell Link to "set a new goal of 1,500 points and try again". Beating the 1500 point target after this point will lead her to give Link her personal quiver as an upgrade.

Wallet

Link can carry only 99 rupees at once in the beginning of Ocarina of Time. There are two wallet upgrades he can obtain to change this:

Adult's Wallet

Main article: Adult Wallet#Ocarina of Time
Adults Wallet - OOT64 model.png

Collecting 10 Gold Skulltula Tokens and going to the House of Skulltula in Kakariko Village will lead the newly uncursed family member to give Link a bigger wallet, holding 200 rupees.

Giant's Wallet

After Link collects 30 Gold Skulltula Tokens, he can return to the House of Skulltula, where another newly uncursed family member will upgrade his wallet once again, to hold 500 rupees.
