Ocarina of Time Scarecrow's Song
In Ocarina of Time, Link can learn the optional Ocarina Song, the Scarecrow's Song, allowing him to hookshot to places where he can uncover secrets and shortcuts found throughout the world. Below is a full guide on how to learn, activate, and use the Scarecrow's Song, allowing with the locations where the scarecrow can be summoned.
Creating the Song
As a child, make your way over to Lake Hylia and head to the small fences at the northeast part of the area where you will find two Scarecrow's here. Speak with Bonooru, who is located at the bottom and he'll tell you that he never forgets a tune. Put him to the test and pull out your Ocarina. Make up your own Ocarina Song and memorize the notes. It must be eight notes, so an easy to remember pattern is useful..
Activating the Song
As an adult, return to Lake Hylia and head back to Bonooru. Pull out the Ocarina of Time and play the same eight note song that you played to Bonooru as a child. This will activate the song, allowing you to play it in specific locations throughout the world. If at any time you forget the Scarecrow's Song, you can return to being a child and have Bonooru repeat it to you, or change it.
How It's Used
Throughout the Overworld and within specific dungeons, there are specific spots where Navi flies over to an area and turns green. All locations listed below allow you to play the Scarecrow's Song to summon Pierre. Link can then use the Hookshot or Longshot to reach Pierre and find whatever secret or shortcut lies ahead.
Location: Entrance of the Sacred Forest Meadow
Purpose: Allows Link to quickly bypass the Moblins and the maze.
Location: After reaching the checkerboard floor room in the Forest Temple with the falling ceiling, Link can head out a nearby door to reach the Northeast courtyard.
Purpose: This serves as a shortcut, making it much easier to reach the later portion of the dungeon, without having to backtrack.
Location: Inside of Dodongo's Cavern. From the main chamber, head through the door to the southeast and you can summon Pierre on the higher ledge.
Purpose: Grappling up to Pierre allows Link to reach a Scarecrow that he previously could not reach.
Location: On top of the Lakeside Laboratory at Lake Hylia.
Purpose: Allows Link to reach the roof, where he can climb the tower to find a Piece of Heart.
Location: Just outside of the Fishing Pond
Purpose: Before Link completes the Water Temple, the water at Lake Hylia is lowered, preventing Link from reaching the Fishing pond. The Scarecrow is one way Link can reach the Fishing Pond, prior to completing the Water Temple.
Location: Water Temple.
Purpose: This location allows Link to reach the highest water level change point from the main chamber after obtaining the Longshot.
Location: On the island where Link acquires the Fire Arrows at Lake Hylia.
Purpose: This particular Scarecrow location has no purpose other than to bring attention to the Fire Arrows that can be acquired after completing the Water Temple.
Location: At the northeast portion of the Death Mountain Crater.
Purpose: This location actually has two Scarecrows that Link can summon. Link can Hookshot over to both Scarecrows to acquire some Rupees.
Location: Located in half-circle room of the Fire Temple. This is the room where there are multiple large boulders that are rolling around. When Link first enters this room on the second floor, he can turn to the right and look up to find a platform. He can play the Scarecrow's Song to summon Pierre.
Purpose: This allows Link to reach one of the optional large rooms at the top of the Fire Temple, where he will find two Gold Skulltulas along the way, as well as a Huge Rupee.
Location: Located on top of the large rock in Zora's Fountain. To summon Pierre, stand on top of the large log that is in the water at the southwest portion of the region and play the Scarecrow's Song.
Purpose: Walk around to find an invisible Red Rupee.
Location: At the very top of the Gerudo's Fortress, next to a treasure chest.
Purpose: Link can use the Hookshot to grapple over, where he can then reach the treasure chest to find a Piece of Heart.
Location: Eye statue room of the Gerudo Training Ground
Purpose: Link can use this to go anti-clockwise around the Gerudo Training Ground.
Location: In the Shadow Temple, just before you ride the boat to the later portion of the dungeon. While standing on the boat look up to the higher ledge where Navi has turned green.
Purpose: There are some Recovery Hearts here, as well as a Gold Skulltula.
Location: In the Shadow Temple, after taking the boat ride and then crossing the void, just before the boss, you can play the Song of Time to reach a higher ledge and get some recovery hearts. From here, you can then play the Scarecrow's Song to get Pierre to appear on a higher ledge.
Purpose: There are a few more Recovery Hearts here, just before the boss battle with Bongo Bongo.
Location: Located in the large open room of the Spirit Temple. Stand near the door on the second floor, near the southwest corner of the room. Play the Scarecrow's Song to get Pierre to appear across the gap.
Purpose: Link can grapple over to find a Gold Skulltula located against the wall.
