As a child, you can reach this area by grabbing a Cucco at the entrance of Zora's River, and bringing it all the way to the east end of the river. You'll have to toss the Cucco up ahead, climb up platforms, and then grab the Cucco once again. Once you pass the main part of Zora's River, just before the bridge, Turn back and face to the west right where the water splits off in two directions. Use the Cucco to follow the water that floats directly to the west and try to land on the nearby ledge. In Ocarina of Time, Link can find a total of 12 Fairy Fountains. Six of which are Great Fairy Fountains. Only the first two Great Fairy Fountains are required to complete the quest, while the remainder of the fountains will allow Link to acquire some upgrades and new abilities. At any point during his quest, Link can revisit a Great Fairy Fountain to fill up both his Life and Magic Meter.

The six regular fairy fountains are filled with fairies that Link can use to heal up, or capture them into an Empty Bottle for later use.
