Naydra is one of three dragons found in Breath of the Wild, and one of four dragons found in Tears of the Kingdom.

Breath of the Wild

"A spirit of ice has taken the form of this giant dragon. Making its home in the Lanayru region, it's said to have served the Spring of Wisdom since ancient times. An old saying goes, "The dragon ascends to the heavens as the sun begins to set," but nobody has seen this in the current age. The ice that coats its body makes it dangerous to get near, but Naydra bears no ill will toward people."

Naydra is first encountered at the peak of Mount Lanayru, infected with Malice (see below). Once freed, it can often be found travelling through Mount Lanayru, the Lanayru Promenade, or the southern portion of the Lanayru Great Spring.

Mechanics

After freeing Naydra from the Malice, it will not start spawning in the world until either the Seek Out Impa Main Quest has been completed, or until Link has freed the four Divine Beasts. Once one of these tasks is completed, Naydra will always spawn whenever the following conditions are met:

• It is between the hours of 7 PM and 7 AM.
• Link is in Lanayru.
• Naydra hasn't already spawned that day.

Naydra will always spawn somewhere on its flight path, and will also spawn relatively far away from Link. Naydra will leave after roaming around for roughly 5 hours, and will leave immediately after being attacked by Link.

Naydra's flight path is a long loop with no set start point. However, Naydra will leave before it can complete one full circuit. Starting from the top of Mount Lanayru, Naydra circles the summit a few times before heading west and descending down the mountain over the Naydra Snowfield. It then passes through Lanayru Road through to the west gate, before returning east along the northern side of Lanayru Heights, plunging into Lanayru Bay, and following the bay until Wintre Island. From there, Naydra ascends to the peak of the mountain, and repeats the cycle.

Naydra can only spawn once a day, but since a new day starts at midnight, it is possible to make it spawn twice in one night.

Drops and Uses

Naydra can drop four different items, those being Naydra's Scale, Naydra's Claw, Shard of Naydra's Fang, and Shard of Naydra's Horn. The part dropped depends on where Naydra was pierced by Link's arrow. The exception to this is during its first encounter with Link, in which case Naydra will always drop a Scale, regardless of where Link shoots it.

Naydra's parts can be used in cooking in order to prolong the effects of various buffs, and can also be sold in exchange for several Rupees:

Shrine Quests

Naydra is involved in The Spring of Wisdom shrine quest in order to gain access to the Jitan Sa'mi Shrine at the summit of Mount Lanayru. Link must remove the Malice accursing Naydra and procure a scale to drop in the Spring of Wisdom, which will subsequently open the door to the shrine.

Farming

The best place to farm Naydra is as it comes up the mountain. Go to the wooded area northeast of the Jitan Sa'mi Shrine on top of Mount Lanayru. Make sure you have Cold Resistance. If you have the Travel Medallion, place it here for convenience. You can replenish wood here as well if you need it. Make a campfire and rest until morning, then immediately glide toward Tarm Point or toward the Lodrum Headland. Naydra will be flying at the bottom of the mountain from the northwest. Drop down to get closer to the dragon, shoot it, grab the item, then teleport back. You can repeat this process until you are satisfied with the number of dragon parts you collected.

Alternatively, if you don't have the Travel Medallion, you can rest until morning at the shrine, then glide northeast toward Wintre Island to catch Naydra as it ascends the mountain. This takes slightly longer than the previous method, as you have to cover more distance compared to gliding from the woods. Fortunately, the items tend to drop more consistently around Wintre Island or the base of the mountain where Naydra begins its ascent.

Another good spot is to position yourself on the Lanayru Bluff, facing the Lanayru Promenade. Naydra should fly straight through the Lanayru Promenade, between the cliffs, making it an ideal place to glide down for a perfect shot.

Trivia

• It's not explained in-game how Naydra became blighted with Malice in the first place, though there's the possibility that it may have happened to hinder Zelda from returning to the Spring of Wisdom.
• Naydra's corruption by Malice could be a nod to Nayru's subjection to possession by Veran in Oracle of Ages, given that both Nayru and Naydra have near identical names and that they are the only deities that have suffered this fate.
• Naydra is not capable of freezing Link while it's blemished with Malice. Removing the Malice allows Naydra to freeze Link henceforth.
• Originating from the skies above the peak of Mount Lanayru, Naydra is the only dragon out of the three whose associated location requires cold resistance.
• Naydra is the largest and mightiest creature in the game which has been blighted with Malice. In spite of the blight, Naydra remains inoffensive towards Link, instead trying to avoid him.
• In order to completely avoid being frozen by Naydra on a close encounter, Link must be wearing clothes with the Unfreezable armor bonus, namely, the ★★+ enhanced Snowquill Set or Zant's Helmet. No other set or single armor part will have such a property, and no meal or elixir will ever grant it.

While the Hyrule Compendium's description of Naydra continues to refer to the dragon as "It", when beginning the Goddess Statue of Wisdom quest, the Goddess Statue in the Spring of Wisdom refers to Naydra with feminine pronouns.

Drops and Uses

Link can hit Naydra once every 10 minutes with any weapon or arrow to cause it to drop a materials. It can drop four materials this way, depending on where Link hits it.

Meanwhile, Shards of Naydra's Spike can be picked up by running along the dragon's back, as they spawn under the dragon's spikes. To stay in such proximity to the dragon requires a minimum of level 2 Cold Resistance - notwithstanding the freezing orbs Naydra breathes out, if these hit Link, the Unfreezable effect from Zant's Helmet or the Snowquill Set's Set Bonus is required to save against being frozen.

Route

Naydra initially flies out of the Depths to the Surface via the Naydra Snowfield Chasm. Naydra will continue east past Mount Lanayru, before turning to the southwest, toward Retsam Forest and Kitano Bay. It then passes, in sequence, around Ebon Mountain, over the Stinger Cliffs, east of the Meda Mountain Chasm, north to Oakle's Navel, and northwest to Bonooru's Stand, before diving into the East Hill Chasm.

In the Depths, Naydra flies on a more northerly path in the opposite direction, passing close to the wall under the Rutala River, and passing by both the Takaruk Lightroot and the Uogoj Lightroot on the way.
