Location

Mesa is a young man living on Outset Island in The Wind Waker.

Overview

Mesa spends all day cutting the grass in front of his house. However, the grass seems to grow rapidly, covering his vegetable patch. The weeds are continiously growing, so Mesa can be seen perpetually cutting it for much of the year.[1][2] Early in the game, Mesa will wish Link a happy birthday, citing how time just seems to pass by so quickly. Mesa lives by himself, but he is currently looking for a wife.[3]

Mesa encourages Link to help him try cutting the grass, saying that it is quite surprising what some people accidentally drop.[4] Although Link will need to have something to cut the grass with, such as a sword.[5][6] After acquiring the Hero's Sword, Mesa will ask Link for a favor, if he can use the sword to cut the grass for him.[7]

After the monsters come to Outset Island, his sleeping schedule gets messed up, and he sleeps during the day and is awake at night.[8][9] Mesa gives Link a hint that he saw a tall girl who glowed like a Fairy travel into the Forest of Fairies at the top of Outset Island. She then vanished into a rock.[10][11] This is the location of the Great Fairy Fountain on Outset Island, which will grant Link a Wallet Upgrade.

Mesa dresses in orange and is the only villager to live on the western side of the island. There is also a secret room in his house that leads through a tunnel to twenty Rupees.
