Medli is a female Rito child appearing only in The Wind Waker. She aids Link on his quest to calm Valoo in Dragon Roost Cavern. She carries a golden harp which has passed hand to hand over many generations. Her clothes are decorated with a symbol resembling Zora's Sapphire seen in Ocarina of Time

She studied to become the attendant of Valoo, the deity of the Rito Tribe and guardian of Dragon Roost Island. She has some understanding of the ancient Hylian language, allowing her to understand some of the words spoken by Valoo who only speaks in ancient Hylian. Her mentor was the grandmother of Prince Komali, a Rito who she developed a stong bond with.

Upon meeting Link, Medli informs him of her intentions to calm Valoo who has been raging at the top of the island, she asks for Link's assistance in gaining access to Dragon Roost Cavern, a task Link accomplishes by picking her up and throwing her up to the higher ledge which leads to the cavern, Medli thanks Link and rewards him with an Empty Bottle. Medli is eventually imprisoned by Moblins but is later saved by Link. Medli gives Link the Grappling Hook for saving her, an item the Rito used before they evolved wings.

Later in the game, Link plays Medli the Earth God's Lyric and is revealed as the descendant and successor of the Earth Sage, Laruto. She is an integral part of the Earth Temple and can be controlled by Link playing the Command Melody on the Wind Waker. Her wings enable her to fly up into otherwise inaccessible places. She also uses her harp to reflect light which helps to complete certain puzzles in the Temple. Upon completion of the Earth Temple, Medli assists in restoring the Master Sword to its true state.

Medli is last seen at the end of the game on board Tetra's pirate ship, greeting Link after his final battle with Ganondorf.
