Location

Lenzo is a famous photographer and resident of Windfall Island in The Wind Waker.

Background

Lenzo, in his younger days, traveled the Great Sea taking various pictures, before settling at Windfall Island. He has a mysterious personality, and is quite popular with the ladies because of this. He believes that someone has stolen one of his Pictograph Boxes, and, although he has many of them, is now very upset and paranoid because of it.[1] Lenzo believes that Tingle stole his pictobox, which is why he is imprisoned in the Town Jail, but unfortunately, the Pictobox is nowhere to be found.[2] When Link first encounters Lenozo in his house, he is very wary of this new stranger.[3] So despite Link's small stature, Lenzo doesn't trust him and will ask him to leave. After Tingle has escaped the Town Jail, Lenzo will give Link a hint that the secret lies forever in the walls of the Town cell.[4]

Afterword, when Link obtains the Pictograph Box from the Windfall Jail, which was stolen by Tingle, and speaks to him, Lenzo acknowledges Link as a fellow pictograph enthusiast, and welcomes him to his house.[5] Lenzo then allows Link to access the second floor, where he shows him his special Pictograph Gallery, full of pictographs taken when he was younger.[6][7][8]

Deluxe Picto Box

After a while, Lenzo asks Link to become his apprentice. He tasks Link with taking pictographs of 4 certain people in certain situations who Lenzo believes need his help. After doing so, Lenzo tells Link of a Forest Firefly, found in the Forest Haven, that he believes can help him create a Pictograph Box with enhanced capabilities. After Link brings him this firefly, Lenzo invents a Pictograph Box that can take pictures in color, and gives it to Link.

In the The Wind Waker HD, Lenzo gives Link the Deluxe Picto Box after he has completed his three tasks, removing the need for the Forest Firefly. After acquiring the Deluxe Pictobox, Lenzo comments that pictographs are the most divine of creations and encourages Link to keep snapping pictographs.[9]

Lenzo's Secret

Outside of Lenzo's House a balcony can be seen at a higher level. Link is able to reach the Balcony by either using the Deku Leaf or activating the Windmill. To activate the Windmill, he'll need to have the wind blowing to the north, and then step on the switch located up the ladder, just behind the Sinking Ships mini-game.

Inside of Lenzo's Attic, he'll find two treasure chests, one containing a Purple Rupee, and the other containing Treasure Chart 29. After acquiring the two treasure chests, Link can crawl through the narrow passage here to appear back in the main room of Lenzo's house. Here, he'll find Lenzo talking with Minenco.

Lenzo and Minenco are simply talking about their shared passion in pictography.[10][11] Lenzo will eventually hear Link and turns to look at him.[12] Lenzo is a bit scared and thrown off that Link was able to sneak into his house.[13] Minenco claims that she only came to his house so that Lenzo can take a pictograph of her with her exceptionally beautiful skin.[14] She tells Link that she's been a huge fan of pictographs for a long time now and doesn't want Link to take her presence at Lenzo's house the wrong way.[15]

Putting the Rumors to Rest

Pompie and Vera are gossiping and spreading rumors about Lenzo, which are that he is in a relationship with Minenco, as she can often be seen entering Lenzo's house. As part of the Lenzo's Secret quest, Link can enter Lenzo's house from the balcony. After seeing Lenzo and Minenco, he can take a pictograph of the two.

Link can then show the pictograph of the two of them to Pompie and Vera.[16][17] After seeing the picture, the two admit that they were wrong about Lenzo having a girlfriend. Instead, it appears Lenzo and Minenco are just friends who share a hobby.[18] Pompie apologizes and thinks maybe they should stop spreading gossip like this.[19] Pompie will then give Link Treasure Chart 24, telling Link that her son had found it.

Legendary Pictographs

Lenzo also sells Link Legendary Pictographs. He sells Link a certain one, depending on which phase of the moon is up that night, for 50 Rupees each. There are seven in total, and they all depict certain characters who cannot otherwise be photographed.

Trivia

  • If Link brings a picture of Outset Island to Lenzo, he remembers having a relationship with a woman on that island in his younger days, but he states that she is probably an elderly woman by now. The only elderly woman on Outset Island is Link's Grandmother, so it is most likely that she is who Lenzo is referring to. If this is the case, then it is possible that Lenzo is Link's Grandfather, though this cannot be proven.
